Terence Tao proposes what he calls a "Copernican view of intelligence". Instead of buying into the common, one-dimensional narrative that artificial intelligence will simply evolve from "subhuman" to "superhuman" and ultimately make humanity entirely redundant, Tao urges us to look at the bigger picture. Much like the Copernican revolution proved the Earth is not the center of the universe, Tao suggests we need to realize that human intelligence isn't the only, or necessarily the highest, form of intellect. Historically, we have treated other forms of storing or creating knowledge—like animals, books, and computers—as secondary. However, we actually exist within a much richer universe of intelligence. Both human intelligence and computer intelligence possess their own distinct strengths and weaknesses. The true potential lies not in viewing them as direct competitors, but rather in focusing on collaboration. By working together, humans and computers can achieve additional things that neither could accomplish on their own, requiring us to think in much wider terms than just what humans or computers can do alone.

If spacetime is emergent, the hard problem of consciousness may be less difficult than people assume. Many formulations of the problem rely on a fairly stable contrast between the mental and the physical. But what if the “physical” is no longer straightforwardly spatiotemporal?

Today is Pi Day The number π is equal to the circumference divided by the diameter: π = C/D. We can find an approximation with any round object. No matter how large or small the circumference, pi is always the same, and that's why it's a constant.

It’s extremely good that Anthropic has not backed down, and it’s siginficant that OpenAI has taken a similar stance. In the future, there will be much more challenging situations of this nature, and it will be critical for the relevant leaders to rise up to the occasion, for fierce competitors to put their differences aside. Good to see that happen today.

Mathematics. Complex Numbers. Fingerprint of Infinity. Fractals. When exploring the Mandelbrot Set, it's easy for you to discover a specific pattern or design that no human has ever seen before. The Mandelbrot Set is the hammer that shatters the ice of our unconscious.

Alexander Grothendieck was a mathematical genius who revolutionized algebraic geometry and influenced many other fields of pure mathematics. He was born in Berlin in 1928 to anarchist parents who had fled from Russia and Germany, respectively. He grew up in France, where he studied mathematics and became a leading figure at the Institut des hautes études scientifiques (IHÉS). He received the Fields Medal in 1966 for his contributions to algebraic geometry, homological algebra, and K-theory. He developed a new abstract and general framework for geometry, using concepts such as schemes, topoi, cohomology, and motives. He also proved the Weil conjectures and generalized the Riemann-Roch theorem. He was known for his extraordinary intuition, ingenuity, and vision, as well as his eccentric and unconventional personality. He left IHÉS in 1970 due to his political and ethical convictions, and later renounced his mathematical work and withdrew from the world. He spent the last decades of his life in seclusion in a small village in the Pyrenees, writing about philosophy, religion, and environmental issues. He died in 2014 at the age of 86.
