@RabbiWolpe My most memorable spill was intentional. My friend, who joined my family for dinner, accidentally spilled his grapejuice on my tablecloth. I immediately poured my grapejuice on the tablecloth. I said: These marks will always remind us of our wonderful dinner together! He smiled.

@RabbiWolpe Succinctly expressed and with such a flair. Now it's our turn to show God that we also care.

3 generations of mothers- my mother, her mother and her mother. Grateful to each who loved long enough for me and my brothers to know and love. #HappyMothersDay

@DBashIdeas Thank you, Rabbi Bashevkin, for your insightful essay. I especially loved: "The word mitzvah comes from tzavta—connection, relationship. It is what binds the Commander to the commanded." So loving and beautiful.

@RabbiWolpe Thank you, Rabbi Wolpe, for sharing your insight that "If God had to make space for us [when God created the world], then we have to make space for God." So beautiful and profound.

Elon Musk says that no one has died because he slashed humanitarian aid. I went to South Sudan to check if that's true. It's not. Within an hour of starting interviews, I had the names of a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl who had died because of decisions by wealthy men in Washington. The visit that moved me the most was to a remote area that used to have no health care, where women routinely died in childbirth. Then a US-funded maternity clinic opened through @UNFPA in December, and not one woman has died since. I showed up, and people mistakenly thought I was responsible for the clinic. One new mom wanted to name her baby for me, and the village elders thanked me and hailed America's generosity. What they didn't know was that Trump/Musk had cut all funding for UNFPA and that as a result the maternity clinic will close this month, and women will once again be bleeding to death in the dust. Here's a giftlink to my report from ground level about what the shutdown of USAID means: nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Yes, the world is screwed-up. But it's time for my annual nanosecond of perspective on why this may be the best year in the history of humanity. Every day, another 30,000 people worldwide move out of extreme poverty. Every three seconds, someone becomes literate. We are at an all-time low for both poverty and child mortality, with 80 million children's lives saved since 2000. Science may kill us, but in the meantime it's saving lives with medical advances, and that's all more real than a Trumpian rant. So every other day of the year I'll barrage you with woe, but this is my annual column reminding us that in the long history of humanity, this is probably the best time to be alive. If you want a dollop of uplift, here's a gift link to the column: nytimes.com/2025/01/18/opi…

@RabbiWolpe Joseph did not tell his father Jacob that he was alive until around 22 years had passed. By not telling his father, did Joseph not observe the Commandment to honor your father and your mother?

@RabbiWolpe Thanks, Rabbi Wolpe, for sharing your wise, insightful, & practical ways of bringing people together. You teach by example ways to pursue peace. Hillel said: "Be of the disciples of Aaron, loving peace & pursuing peace, loving all people..." Thanks for all your efforts & results!
