Earlier today, Alberta’s government announced that as teachers and students return to the classroom this week we will be taking immediate action to reduce class sizes and address classroom complexity. We will be appointing a Class Size and Complexity Task Force, who will begin work in three important areas. 1️⃣ Collecting and publicly releasing class size and complexity data, which will help inform which classrooms are most in need of supports and resources. 2️⃣ Implement solutions from the final report of the Aggression and Complexity in Schools Action Team, which will be released soon. 3️⃣ Begin working with school boards, teachers, educational assistants to review and replace the 2004 Standards for Special Education.

With the passing of Bill 2, the Back to School Act, Alberta students will return to class on October 29, ending disruption for families and putting the focus back where it belongs: on students. Teachers have made it clear that classroom complexity and safety are among the most critical challenges in our education system. We are strengthening classroom supports, hiring 3,000 new teachers and 1,500 education assistants, and acting on the recommendations of the Aggression and Complexity in Schools Action Team. We will continue to work with teachers to find lasting, practical solutions so every educator has the support they need and every student can learn in a safe, supportive environment. Parents, teachers and students all want the same thing – classrooms where every child can find success.

Invoking the “Not with standing clause” is wrong on so many levels. You only need to look at the Calgary mayoral Election to see the voters don’t forget when a terrible decision is made by government leaders. I implore you to reverse this decision.#UCP #albertagovernment

@LaurieAdkin @drdagly @DrShazmaMithani I get my flu shot every year including this one and the flu (H1N1) still found me. I thank my flu shot for greatly reducing the severity.

I was chatting with my friend and colleague @DrShazmaMithani last Sunday during a brutal call. Between us we are on prophylaxis for menningococcus and invasive streptococcus, (flesh eating disease), and filling up the unit with influenza cases. Feels like the Middle Ages. 😞😬

If they are really intending to make these kinds of nutrition cuts it is inhumane, nonsensical, and will only cost more in the long run. Honestly, what are we doing here Alberta?
