@WilkerJen I'm glad to see that teparies are used again. There is still a lot of potential in tepary beans. The initial image appears to resemble an F1 if the female parent is a common bean, while the second one does not. It's important to note that all F1s of P.v x P.a are self-sterile.

These interspecific hybrid F1 plants may possess capacity to improve important traits in common bean, such as drought and heat tolerance. These plants are hardening off nicely in the screenhouse after embryo rescue tissue culture.

My undergraduate (😱🥳) student Marysia finished developing a protocol on our @opentrons OT-2 liquid handler to run KASP markers for screening lines for major anthracnose resistance loci. This is awesome because it democratizes high-throughput MAS.

@TheBuellLab @USDA_NIFA Awesome project, You should consider using already developed interspecific common/tepary bean lines to facilitate the cross between both species. Using traditional common beans to cross with tepary beans or vice-versa is a demanding task that requires time and effort.
