All the heartburn and breast-beating in India over Pakistan jumping up and down trying to play mediator or postman in Middle East was plain stupid. Middle East is even more complicated than Bihar politics. India played smart by tilting towards the Arabs without burning bridges with Iran. Pakistanis were trying to take lead role, in part to save themselves from joining the war. The result: UAE has asked them to return $3.5bn. The Saudis are angry because the Pakistanis haven't lived up to their commitments under the mutual defence agreement (over which again the usual suspects here were shedding tears and the Pakistanis were behaving as if they had become some kind of superpower). If Saudis pull out their money, Pakistani forex reserves collapse by 1/2. Thats why they ran to China. But instead of giving them money, the Chinese demanded they pay their company $200m and start talking to Afghans. The Iranians don’t trust them and feel they are trying to expose them to US/Israeli targeting. Meanwhile the puppet regime and their all conquering field marshal have been selling the story that they are now the centre of the world. But their bullshit is being exposed by the fact that the IMF has not cut them any slack, and they have been forced to raise petrol prices by nearly nearly 100% in one month. The public anger is at boiling point. Incidentally, paki regime embedded journalists (that means the entire media space) was trying to show that there is a huge fuel shortage and long queues in India. The fear now is that if Pakis dont play ball, the GCC countries could close their doors for Pakistani workers which would hit them real hard on the remittance front. If they join the war on Iran that will have a solid destabilising effect in the country; if they don’t the economy goes into a meltdown stage.

The heartburn over Russian oil being sold at a premium is so stupid. Russians were selling oil at a discount not because they loved India or were smitten by us. They sold it because we were one of the few willing to buy and they needed to sweeten the deal to make it worthwhile for us. But the same oil would not, repeat would not, be sold today at a discount simply because Russian oil is no longer sanctioned and given supply breakdowns, it enjoys a premium.
