It’s been a longstanding priority of mine to support Texas families by increasing access to maternal health care in our state, especially in rural areas. The Nurse-Family Partnership is an evidence-based program that pairs low-income new mothers with specially trained nurses who can provide regular in-home care during and after pregnancy.
I’m proud to have worked to support and expand this important program in Texas, helping positively impact the lives of vulnerable babies, mothers and families across our state. Last session, the program received increased state funding for a total of $38.4 million as well as more funding for the Thriving Texas Families program that also supports it, allowing more at-risk Texas families to be cared for.
Along with other groundbreaking measures to improve maternal health care access—including last session’s extension of health benefits for new mothers from 60 days to 12 months—the Texas House will continue working to ensure a bright, healthy future for Texas families.
