The “time and place” argument works both ways. A college classroom or campus cafeteria is not a job interview, corporate office, courtroom, or formal event. Many of these students live on campus, and they should not be expected to dress up every day just to attend class or grab something to eat.
These are adults. They understand that different settings may require different clothing, but that does not mean other adults should force them to dress according to someone else’s idea of how Black people should look or be represented. Being comfortable in class does not mean someone lacks professionalism, discipline, or ambition. A bonnet or durag does not prevent anyone from learning, completing assignments, or earning a degree.

I can tell people just like to argue online because trying to defend students’ rights to wear bonnets and du rags to class in college is crazy. It’s a time and a place for everything.

Have yall not seen how these kids are showing up for job interviews? It’s a bigger issue at large than wanting to wear sleeping attire in a classroom. It’s a lack of understanding professionalism, discipline, and knowing there’s a time and place for certain things.

Yes…I wore sweats, barely dressed up, and only put on a suit for conferences…I was in the honors college and held multiple leadership positions and internships
Like many other students at my alma mater…but my bad…I guess some of us need clothes to stick out …not acumen.

Also, sometimes I think HBCU’s fail to see that all college campuses have students that wear pajamas to school. White people just don’t wear bonnets/durags which is what makes it anti-black.

Because it is documented that these strict dress codes in colleges lead to lower graduation and more drop outs. So, why are you fighting for lower graduation?
