True. Miami is a small private school. Contrary to the “Miami dropped a bag” narrative, Miami really doesn’t have the resources to compete with the Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, etc of the world. This is why, as soon as recruiting became more national and Miami couldn’t retain local talent, the program fell into 2 decades of poverty. It’s also why Miami doesn’t sell out games. Smaller school, smaller fanbase, fewer resources. Even during the run of 5 Nattys in 18 years, Miami rarely sold out the Orange Bowl. Miami’s athletic facilities were absolutely bottom tier for any sort of contender. Without elite resources and a without the stranglehold on South Florida talent, Miami became irrelevant. Thanks to new leadership, donors, and changing priorities, UM has assembled as many resources as possible for a small school. Just enough to be somewhat in the conversation. But without the right guy, the right system, the right supporting staff, an elite recruiter, and an elite culture, Miami would be stuck. And finding the right guy to assemble all those pieces with razor-thin margins of error at a relatively low-resource program with paradoxically astronomical expectations is nearly impossible. Mario inherited one of the worst rosters in Miami history. In terms of draft products, it was quite literally the worst in 50+ years. He rebuilt from scratch and has now brought Miami back to prominence. National relevance, elite players, playoff victories, and already had us within 50 yards of winning it all. If you think a couple game management mistakes 3 years ago make him a “bad coach” you don’t know football. You don’t know what the job entails. He inherited arguably the most difficult job in the sport, based on the imbalance of expectations and history vs resources, and has turned a small private school’s football team back into a national championship caliber program. @coach_cristobal is a top 5 coach in the sport. PERIOD.

I just finished my first ever viewing of James Mangold's COP LAND [1997]. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this one, I think it's excellent. The cast is unbelievably stacked, I saw about twenty recognizable supporting-type actors. Great performances top to bottom. Liotta is fantastic, Robert Patrick is great, Keitel is menacing, DeNiro is DeNiro. Stallone gives what is probably the most nuanced performance I've seen from him. I'm glad I finally crossed this one off the list. Superb.
