This is happening for a long time in #Leitrim and some of those investors are farmers from other places who will not farm the land but plant 🌲 it as investors with loads of grants & tax breaks from Irish taxpayers. #communitiesnotplantations x.com/i/status/20321…

Investor-type, non-farmer buyers scooped up over half of the offers hitting the land market last year in parts, a new report from auctioneers group IPAV said. eu1.hubs.ly/H0sBzqy0

If this damage resulted from farming activity @IFAmedia @farmersjournal the farmer would be prosecuted & would loose payments under breaches of crosscompliance. But this is acceptable to @agriculture_ie forest service @MHealyRae so that profits can be extracted from plantations

@farmersjournal Who in their right mind would build anything with Sitka? The majority of conifers planted here are destined for firewood or pallets. Even DAFM don’t want it in farm sheds or fencing

@Mark_J_Henry @EU_Eurostat Ireland has few forests but too many loathsome plantations with non native conifers which destroy the environment & communities. Unfortunately little if any life beneath the canopy. No light = no life.

Ireland has seen good growth in forests in recent years. Surprisingly, we are one of the least forested countries in the EU but there was positive growth of 7% in 2023 and 6% in 2024. That helps with climate change and can reduce flooding. 🇮🇪🌲 ec.europa.eu/eurostat/en/we…

LOOKING BACK! A year after Storm Éowyn turned Ireland on its head, the Corlough community - one of the last nationwide to get their power back this time last year - feel a little bit better prepared for future weather events.

This is not environmentalism. It is extraction. It is the transfer of wealth, amenity and security from rural communities to remote corporates and a political class drunk on targets and buzzwords. If “green” policy means forcing 200 plus people to pay to defend their own homes and water supply from giant foreign-owned turbines that will never power their own sockets, then those policies have failed. Spectacularly.

A proposed 9 sky scraper tower super turbine wind ‘farm’ in rural County Galway has now attracted 213 submissions from the public objecting to the development. Over 200 people in my small rural community have now had to pay €50 each and give up their evenings and weekends to object to a project that nobody here asked for and nobody here will ever benefit from.

Minister @MHealyRae talks to Patrick Grace, a young farmer who chose to plant Continuous Cover Forestry on his land. Patrick explains how CCF fits perfectly with his beef enterprise, helping diversify his farm income while maintaining productivity & environmental balance.

By planting 0ne third of all available land in Co #Leitrim mainly with 🌲 & generously funding it with 🇮🇪 taxpayer funds is a state led land clearance which is shutting down our rural areas & destabilising rural population, services & community sustainability. Why? @MHealyRae

& @rayofoghlu this one of the main reasons, 8 years ago, @SaveLeitrim started to resist the wholescale cumulative afforestation of #Leitrim by investors (incl investor farmers) funded by taxpayers pushing local farming families off the land & destabilising our rural communities

Forests are nature's powerhouse, battling climate change, providing homes for wildlife, the timber for sustainable homes, & enhancing farm incomes. Why not join the 19,500 farmers already in forestry? Ireland's afforestation grants ensure planting trees has never been simpler!
