Our June 7 freedom of information request about the #Edgewaterdisaster #Sheridanexpansion data still has NOT been answered. But the comment period was closed July 31. The State says it needs more time but won’t afford the public the same right. #opentheEIS

Advocates, as well as a 2013 city study, recommended a different method...they believe would lead truck traffic to stay on the Bruckner and avoid the new pedestrian-friendly boulevard section of the Sheridan. nydailynews.com/news/politics/…

Goes back to what folks at @sbrwa @THEPOINTCDC @_ympj and local residents asked for - reducing the width Sheridan to give more space back to the community. It's not a meaningful improvement to remove elevated highway and add crossings to access the riverfront.

Residents of the South Bronx, Williamsburg, and the Lower East Side have all proposed smart alternatives to highway business-as-usual; New York City & New York State need to follow their lead. @sbrwa

“Communities throughout New York (without the same financial means as residents of Brooklyn Heights) have been dealing with the Robert Moses legacy of highways that divided neighborhoods from each other or from the waterfront.” nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-ope…

That’s accurate - it’s actually costing less than $98 million because the State refused to reduce lanes or change the footprint.

@lawhawk @StvBurns @wcbs880 @angtovar The associated expansion of the roadway involves a taking a portion of Concrete Plant Park to build a ramp and other new barriers to parkland on Edgewater Road.

@StvBurns @wcbs880 @sbrwa @angtovar This is a good first step in reconnecting with the waterfront and opening up the potential for more parkland in an area desperate for green space; the concern is that it's still too much roadway for the needs and access to Hunts Point.

Construction is set to start next week on converting the Sheridan Expressway into an "urban boulevard". It's what advocates like @sbrwa have been fighting for for decades...but they're not happy about this news. @angtovar calls this moment "bittersweet." wcbs880.radio.com/articles/sheri…
