@KatieKeithBarn2 Could be. Most of my team are in non-coding roles and adoption is still challenging. Maybe people like you and I are just early adopters of tech in general? Maybe we just need to show them value that feels personal to them, since they aren't excited about the tech itself.

@sc456a I don't know whether it's that some developers genuinely enjoy writing code and don't want to change, or whether they just don't know how to use AI effectively.

Talking to other company owners has confirmed that it's reasonable to require my developers to adopt an AI-first approach and radically increase their efficiency. Do you have any advice for what to do when developers push back and say that AI doesn't save them much time because they have to spend so much time rewriting the code? I feel like this means they're not using it properly (wrong prompts, skills, models etc.) but am not technical enough to prove this or show them how to get better results.

@KatieKeithBarn2 I'm not sure why there is hesitancy to embrace AI. Maybe it's fear of the tech, or a concern that showing how well it works would be like talking yourself out of a job. Eschewing AI feels like using encyclopedias to write a report in 1997 when the Internet was at your fingertips.

@DerekAshauer I think there is going to be an app for literally everything but most of them will either not work or have a very narrow focus. I think there is going to be an entire industry of people needed to fix AI built tools, at least over the next few years.

Last Dec, I used AI to build an indoor plant tracking system. Uses AI to identify species and build care plans for my 70+ plants Even as a dev I’m tired of constantly fixing the bugs and tweaking it People are still going to want trusted, *tested* software I think expectations will change so you’ll either have to lower prices or increase value - but the demand will still be there

@DerekAshauer @pmproplugin The PMPro thing just sounds like a bundle, but I think there is something to the idea of becoming a "maker" - someone who you hire to build something that's more than a plug-in but less than an entire business. A kind of advanced problem solver that works as a hired gun.

Another #PressConf takeaway was the idea of being a productized service (or servicitized product?) It is really interesting to see @pmproplugin making a huge bet on this with their new Max plan. Combining my 20+ years of client experience with products into a single offering seems like a genuinely possible idea to consider. See Kim’s post about it 👇

@KatieKeithBarn2 A very interesting read. I appreciate the (what must have been) significant amount of time you put into this. I'm curious - you tracked 1,485 hours of time and broke that down into eight categories. Where does time spent on X posts get categorized?

Happy New Year, everyone! 🍾☀️ Don't miss my 7th Year in Review post. It’s a mix of numbers, experiments, things that worked, things that didn’t, and some uncomfortable reflections about changes and how I spent my time in 2025. barn2.com/blog/2025-year…
