@Topbin90 What were the expectations? This is the same side as last season (plus LDLT & minus on the best CBs in MLS in Malanda), just a year older. The numbers reflect that: The attack is about the same or better than last season. The defense has predictably dropped off without Malanda.

@Keepers_Union @NakedRegis Stats aren't only limited to descriptive statistics. Predictive statistics are incredibly valuable. They give a more robust expectation than descriptive statistics. You make better decisions w/ forward-looking predictive stats vs backward-looking descriptive stats.

@NakedRegis And more than that - xG isn’t really a stat. It’s a prediction. A stat is reflective of things a player actually did (goals, saves, home runs, td passes etc). xG is a prediction/judgement of what a player *should have* done.

I’m seeing ‘save percentage’ used more often in debates about goalkeepers. It’s the most useless stat imaginable. Post-shot xG has some value, but is still compromised by the subjective human judgement of the difficulty of a shot. It’s still about the eye test.

@Keepers_Union Most respectable xG models, especially the proprietary ones used by big clubs, absolutely DO include variables for weather, game state, etc. Generally, if you can measure it, it's probably in the best xG models.

@schimax I’m talking about just me. The best way for ME to judge a goalkeeper is by the eye test. The main fault of xG for my purposes is it assumes equal conditions (weather, pitch conditions, score, stakes/importance of the match etc) for all these billions of shots. They aren’t equal

@Peter_Bukowski The Eagles and Panthers games kind of ruined this last year. Before last season, under MLF, they were 7-2 at home in Nov/Dec in games that Love played & finished.

Sources: The conference series between the American and A-10 will be limited to the South Florida-Saint Louis and Memphis-Dayton matchups only for the 2026-27 season. Other meetings will of course occur between the two leagues, but not as part of the structured series.

JUST IN: U.S. inflation jumped to 3.8% (y/y) in April--> the highest in three years. This is painful for Americans, especially moderate-income households. Inflation rose 0.6% in the month of April due to soaring gas prices that accounted for over 40% of the increase. Rising shelter and food prices also pushed up inflation. From a purely sporting perspective, it's weird to have 11 seeds playing 11 seeds while 12 seeds play 12 seeds (and 15 seeds playing 15 seeds while 16 seeds play 16 seeds). But obviously this new format has very little to do with sport
