@camtology the method of the book follows the metaphysics in that it often takes a referenced idea as far as it needs to before latching onto another connection. it can b difficult tho because the ephemeral engagements require significant context sometimes

@scrundge Read it the first time back in 2022 without the strongest background in these (just some Freud and Marx) followed the text alongside a seminar series and while I didn’t understand everything, AO does not hide the books and thinkers it’s building on, so I went and read those

@drop_D_riff people need to seriously consider whether their thoughts and lives are interesting enough to warrant lyrics about them. like maybe middle class depression doesnt need further exploration

I think misandry is a totally acceptable and reasonable viewpoint on the world. If people hate men, I figure they have good reason for it and its an adaptive way for them to be in the world. I dont think its useful to have hurt feelings or try to dissuade them from this.

@MKnowlesShow all of the welfare cited is being used by citizens, and studies of per capita welfare usage consistently find that immigrants use less than US-born americans. if he understands this, im not sure what point hes making

@JoeMcswag7283 @MKnowlesShow Yes, illegals come here & shit out a kid & then fill out their welfare paperwork under their anchor baby’s name. Yes. We all know this. We have been telling you this for decades. This is precisely the issue.

@htmljones @SweetCornSeason because america is the global hegemon, it selects for bourgeois immigrants, and as a result its indian population is wealthier than the average “white” american (by almost 2:1). if we cut the pie that way, it would be impermissible for the former to caricature the latter

@htmljones @SweetCornSeason youre arguing that power dynamics determine the ethical permissibility of caricature. but broad structural differentials at a global level are not always representative of power dynamics at an individual level.

@fredleept every “political” criticism of this movie seems to make particular characters/groups into universal representations of entire races or the very idea of revolution itself. viewing art this way reduces it to empty morality plays, propagandistic and shallow

The OBAA people are really going to the mat for this film rather than just admitting what's perfectly obviousto everyone: this film is tailored made for white liberals.

@syjvicious individual prejudice on the basis of immutable characteristics can derive from any person of any group, irrespective of structural dynamics. it should be rejected on principle, without minimizing the importance of structural dynamics as well

accusing a palestinian of antisemitism is akin to accusing a black person of anti-white racism or a woman of misandry. have some fucking shame.

@hecubian_devil im so sorry but much of this discourse and the impossibility of adjudicating it comes from the fact that all social behavior has become pathologized and explained thru imprecise identity categories (is anyone really “neurotypical”?)

@1mN0taB0t @mtracey no it’s not. each column equals 100%, meaning that, of the sample of trump voters, 83% support the military action

@mtracey That’s not what this is saying. It’s saying 83% of the people who support the bombing voted for Trump. Not the same thing.

@Mike_from_PA @NLH2224 the purpose of acknowledging an oppressive regime is to describe the reality of the world. the validity of a truth claim is not dependent on how state actors might distort it to justify all kinds of atrocities.

@NLH2224 What purpose does "acknowledging an oppressive regime" serve? Ultimately, you are helping normalize the attack by removing focus from the innocent Iranian population who takes the brunt of the illegal attack from the US and Israel.

@mtracey the elaborate depravity of their fantasies is really disturbing. it clearly excites them, and then they rationalize it by framing their excitement as extreme disgust

@mtracey it really cannot be overstated how much tv and movies inform the worldview of conspiracy imbeciles, down to the grandiose “good/evil” narratives. it’s common for qanon people to remember a form of torture they saw in a horror movie and claim that it’s happening on a mass scale

YouTube "video essays" are the absolute worst. You have some guy talking somberly into the camera, reading a contrived little script, as though educating the masses from a place of presumed authority -- and it's totally batshit. This already has millions of views in two days
