#ICYMI Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of the publication of "Tidy Data," the paper that sparked the #tidyverse. I have a deep appreciation for this paper and the tidyverse, and so I decided to celebrate it with my first Medium post. #rstats @sctyner90/10-lessons-from-tidy-data-on-its-10th-anniversary-dbe2195a82b7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@sctyner90/10-…

They also discuss applying red teaming and benchmarking to difficult-to-audit LLMs, before applying all four of the approaches to a real-life example to demonstrate how an algorithmic audit could have prevented a very public chatbot failure. (3/3)

(To be clear it is objectively a bad idea to try to use LLMs to generate random numbers for many reasons, but I was forced to consider it and now you are too.)

In case you've ever wondered, "Can I use LLMs to generate random numbers?" the answer is no. This does make me want to go down a rabbit hole of how LLMs interpret "randomness" though.....

On 2/6/2024, CMS expressed concerns for algorithms and artificial intelligence used by Medicare Advantage plans, in part, because they might rely on internal coverage criteria. CMS then warned: "We will be monitoring closely whether MA plans are utilizing and applying internal coverage criteria that are not found in Medicare laws, NCDs, or LCDs, and whether the internal coverage criteria are publicly accessible and coverage policies meet the regulatory requirements." The FAQ and the responses regarding algorithms and AI are striking and foreshadow future regulatory/compliance challenges for MA plans. The FAQ can be found here: cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/upl…
