We joined the National Police Requiem Mass and City Hall’s Act of Remembrance — honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Many within our ranks also serve in the Armed Forces or as cadet instructors, united in service and remembrance. We will remember them. #LestWeForget

20yrs on from 7/7, we remember those who never came home, and those who ran towards chaos. Emergency services, volunteers, TfL staff responded with courage and compassion. Today, a guard of honour stood in silent tribute, a lasting testament to humanity in the darkest of moments.

Great-nan Bella joined the Women’s Land Army in Essex in 1942. And great-nan Mavis, became a Civil Defence messenger at 14. She was awarded a Victory Medal. Now following in the footsteps of service their legacy lives on. #VEDay80 @metpoliceuk

Uniform is truly a family affair. PC Lineham’s Great-granddad George volunteered for the Army (REME) in 1941 and served in North Africa when VE Day was announced. Great-granddad Frank served in the Royal Navy in the Far East — he recalled there was plenty of drink on VE Day.

Today PC Lineham had the honour of carrying the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour at Westminster Abbey for the #VEDay80 commemorations, her little cousin was also present for this moment of deep reflection on the sacrifices of so many. #LestWeForget

London plays host to many large events every year, but there are some that take on much greater national significance. As the country marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day over the coming days, officers will be on duty across the city to keep the public safe.

This morning, officers from The Sovereign Colour Unit changed Ilford Police Stations flag from EllR to CIIIR. They were joined by Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, EA BCU Commander Stuart Bell and Chief Inspector Malcolm Gillespie.

Honouring PC Philip Walters, who was killed in the line of duty 30 years ago. PC Walters was fatally shot when confronting and pursuing a suspect in Redbridge. His bravery and service will never be forgotten. 💙 #LestWeForget

On 29/01 Bexleyheath Police station held a ceremony to commemorate the changing of the Metropolitan Police Service Standard and the transition of the monarchy A wonderful celebration, and a proud day for all involved. #CelebratingBexley @LBofBexley

The @MetPoliceChoir were once again excellent. The @scu1829 of the @metpoliceuk again led the ceremonial aspect and the Guild awarded its highest honour, the Guild Fellowship, to our National Chaplain @barry0358

Earlier this afternoon, we welcomed @catholic_police for their 101st Requiem Mass, celebrated by Bishop Williams. Founded in 1914, the Police Guild held their first Requiem here in 1923 and, with the exception of a 2020 livestream, have been back to the Cathedral each year since.

The 101st National Solemn Police Requiem takes place @WestminsterCath on Thursday 7.11.24 at 1430HRS. All welcome.
