They signed Nico Gonzalez for £65m in 2025 January window just because Rodri got injured, he wasn’t good enough, and they binned him.
They signed Reijnders last summer for £70m, used him for a few games, he wasn’t good enough, they binned him instantly.
Now they’re about to sign Elliot Anderson for £100m.
That’s close to £250m spent on a single position in the space of a year, no other club has that kind of financial luxury.
This is what Arsenal are up against, financial cheats with endless pool of blood money. All their trophies are asterisked in my eyes.

- First ever knockout stages of CL for club
- Two cup finals - First in 25 years
- Ended 56-year trophy drought
- 4th highest in league points since taking over
- Club went numerous windows without improving the team
- 49% win percentage
- Finished 11th, 4th (highest in 20 years), 7th, and 5th
- Took over club in relegation place and helped them become the first club in history to avoid relegation after not winning any of their first 14 games (previous manager’s run)
- Finished 14th and was sacked
But this is Eddie Howe’s time at Newcastle, so they desperately want him sacked.

Newcastle’s season is over and all that is left is to search through the wreckage for survivors. The manager will take the blame but I hope he survives. He deserve to but there were several players out there today who should hang their heads in shame. Some are cowards, some aren’t good enough and others clearly don’t want to be there anymore #nufc

Eddie Howe remains the best manager for Newcastle United and deserves the chance to rebuild the squad in the summer with a proper support structure in place. If he leaves in the summer, I believe the club will regret it. Probably swiftly and for a long time.
This is my opinion. I have covered the club for 23 years. I watch them pretty much every week and nothing that happens between now and the end of May will change my mind.
It’s fine to disagree. I’ve seen a few comments about where I’m from recently and the fact I’m not a fan. Like that prevents me from having an opinion on a club it is my job to cover and has been for more than two decades.
This is my professional opinion as a football journalist. Lots of you will disagree with it. But I also know many of you agree with me because I speak to people all the time and don’t spend my entire day on here.

The more you think about last summer’s transfer window, the more it has killed Newcastle’s season - and will also hamstring them in future windows.
£222m worth of talent signed last summer (4 players) on the bench today, only getting a handful of minutes between them.
If even two of them had been an immediate success (like Isak, Bruno G, Trippier, Burn etc were) #NUFC would be in a much stronger position and IMO in European places.
In addition to the psychological problems when they go in front (25 point dropped from winning positions), it feels like there’s a real issue with staleness in the team.
You can get away with one big-money signing not working out…but not 4 in one window.
(NB. I think Ramsey is a player btw, but he’s not played enough due to injury).
