Tornadoes, aurora, 3km CAPE/vort bullseyes, streamwise hodos with that kink at 700mb, and the stray cat in my yard. As seen on TV one time like 7 years ago

A sequence of four ultrawide pictures of a slowly developing tornado. This is what it looks like when all of the ingredients come together. 5.16.2021 - Earth, TX

Revisiting this a week later - confidence continues to increase regarding an uptick in severe weather potential across the Central US in early April. I'll have a blog post out soon detailing the intricacies of the threat as ensemble guidance starts to cluster on the specifics.
John Homenuk@jhomenuk

The MJO and associated adjustments to the Pacific Jet should begin to open the door for additional storm chasing opportunities in early April, particularly April 3-10. Signals among long range and subseasonal guidance suggest paying close attention to this period.

Nothing is ever the same, but history rhymes, even in science and even in meteorology. So, with a handful of tornadoes already in the bag, I say let's just do the 2023 thing all over again.

When you’re chasing this year, really try to eat at local restaurants. The world doesn’t need more Chipotle’s or Starbucks. It needs more original and locally owned restaurants

@sdantwx The region has many dead trees from significant fungal diseases over the past 5-7 years that come down in 40-50 gusts, it’s a bit disingenuous to use the “number of damage reports” over measured wind with the vast majority of the “damage” being tree fall

@Get_EMLd @StormCoker There are some minor similarities locally (in the USA) but putting aside the fact that 2012 had a huge April outbreak and was pretty decent in May despite its reputation our background state is nowhere close. Brian called that out a few days ago. El Niño is coming on fast.

Have talked about this more than once lately, but here is a look at the Ensemble Oceanic Niño Indices (courtesy of @webberweather) from 2010 through 2023. The ENS ONI for 2012 was negative early and slightly positive late. However, here is the sea surface temperature anomaly comparison of March 14th, 2012 versus today...pretty significant differences. I get the trepidation about the drought and wind for some of us, but the driver of where we are likely headed this warm season is quite different than it was in 2012...#desertfarmers #cowx #kswx #okwx #txwx #nmwx #sdwx #ndwx #iawx #mowx #elnino #wheat #corn #beef

@StormCoker Despite what Gabe says based on one run of an ensemble suite that isn’t even into April yet we will not be experiencing early season doldrums, and we will still experience June troughs anyway

These photos come from inside the Cottonwood Fire burn area in Nebraska. A trail camera owned by Jordan Adams went straight through the wildfire and was left completely melted. When he recovered it, he carefully opened the camera and found the SD card inside was still intact. The photos were saved. They’re date- and time-stamped, giving a rare look at how quickly the fire moved through the landscape. Photos courtesy of Jordan Adams.

These are some of the most absurd snowfall maps I've seen for a synoptic snowstorm. Explicit 2-3+" snowfall totals with the possibility for higher depending on where you get terrain + lake enhancement. The UP is in for a truly historic blizzard through early next week.

There was a moment today where I wanted to throw up, scream, and cry at the same time. And I’m not even mad about it bc this is what I live for. If I wanted to be mentally stable I’d take up bird watching or something
