Here's something to think about if you are going to get a dog. It's an analogy, a story, and a lesson. 🧵 Imagine that from the time you are borne until the time you die, you live inside a house. OR You are outside a house, but nearly your entire life you are on a rope or chain. Everything about WHO you are and HOW you operate isn't with what you see, but what you smell. You can smell things outside your zone, but you trapped. Aromas that tantalize your brain as just forever inaccessible. You cannot escape your predicament. The people who care for you provide you with food and perhaps love and attention, but you are stuck. Imagine putting a human in that position. Do a thought experiment. Think about trapping yourself in your house and turning off all the things that give you mental stimulation. No WIFI. No Netflix. No Books. If you are thinking about getting a dog, one of the most important things you can do for that animal is let them explore. Obviously, keep them safe. They don't have to off leash, but trapping a dog within a backyard or within a house can be terrible for their mental health. That's right. Dogs have needs for good mental health. Dogs have BIG brains. Dogs are highly intelligent. They aren't shooting rockets off to outer-space or doing surgery, but they near the top of the animal kingdom in intelligence. Yes, some dogs THRIVE being inside ONLY dogs, never to go outside except to a vet. Yes, some backyard only dogs burn off enough steam doing whatever. This isn't the norm. A dog needs to go on a walk or do a job. A dog needs to be given time to smell, sniff, and explore. A working dog needs to be allowed to herd, hunt, retrieve, DO. We know that SO many dog owners do this, and know this. Some don't. It's ok not to know something. You can't know EVERYTHING. However, the current research into dog health includes mental stimulation. Mental stimulation for every dog is a bit different. Most dogs do amazingly with a long daily walk, being given time to smell and explore. Some working dogs literally need a job OR the walk includes games and puzzles for them to solve. Please remember that dogs were selected for THOUSANDS of years to DO THINGS. Sometimes, ONE SPECIFIC THING. We can't turn those genes off. We can probably NEVER turn them off. If this seems like A LOT and you don't agree, that's ok. Perhaps a dog isn't for you, and that is totally ok. Our family didn't have the time or money to have a dog when we were so busy with little kids and getting jobs. No matter how MUCH we wanted a dog, the research even then was clear that a dog requires the most valuable commodity in our busy lives. TIME. If you have the TIME, a dog could be the greatest thing in your life. #dogs

I was very self-indulgent today. I've been wanting to get myself a present for end of treatment. I bought a diamond pendant and studs. I've been subjected to high heat and pressure of life w cancer, and like a diamond, I am not easily broken, and I shine, dammit!

@TELUSsupport WOO HOO! After 1:30 and I finally am talking to someone.

In case you were curious, we're at 1:18 mark now. Just like the music I am being forced to listened to, the service isn't getting better. I used to think @TELUS @TELUSsupport was great.Maybe it's time to shop around.

@TELUSsupport I was in a Telus store last week. 4 employees all looking down at their devices, no customers. The 1 person who dealt with me had no time for me and I quickly left, no purchases made no questions answered.
