Each time I mention the Polish economic wonder, some frustrated repliers argue that it is due to EU subsidies, mainly from Germany.
Germany exports over €100B to Poland each year, more than to China. No other country benefits more from the Polish boom than Germany.

Ich bin Mitte 30. Ich habe BWL studiert. In meiner Bubble haben 2021 gefühlt 90% FDP gewählt. Die FDP war die stärkste Partei bei Erstwählern.
Was diese Gruppe eint, ist eine sehr berechtigte Sorge, dass Deutschland ein immer sozialistischeres Land wird. Jedes Jahr verlassen 300.000 ihre Heimat, mehr als jeder 4. in dieser Gruppe denkt über das Auswandern nach.
Ein Wolfgang Kubicki, der jede Art der Zusammenarbeit mit der AfD ausschließt, zementiert auch in Zukunft mindestens eine linke Partei in der Regierung.
In Baden-Württemberg haben im März 37% der Arbeiter AfD gewählt. Das sind alles Nettosteuerzahler.
Wenn du diese Stimmen ignorierst, brauchst du gar nicht erst antreten.
Unverständlich, dass ein erfahrener Politiker wie Kubicki sich schon nach wenigen Tagen dermaßen selbst ins Knie schießt.

We were stationed in Bamberg, Germany for over 5 years. When the base closed down in 2014, it devastated the local economy. Now it’s a housing center for illegal immigrants and the once beautiful city looks like a third world shi!hole and the locals are stuck between letting their city die or letting the illegals kill it. Pull our troops home and let Europe deal with the consequences of their actions.

Nichts braucht Deutschland mehr als eine echte liberale Partei. In der FDP kann nur Kubicki das schaffen. Ob er es schafft, steht aber völlig in den Sternen. Niemand kennt wirklich seine Programmatik, seine Strategie, seine Personalpolitik. Er ist 74 und muss wahrscheinlich drei Jahre APO machen.

Russia and China were both crippled by populist revolutions, heavily inspired by the West, creating dysfunctional cultural outcomes.
China’s long history gave it some cultural fat to rebuild with. Russia still seems a basket case.
Populism is now destroying the US.
Populism in turn is driven by the absence of collective mechanisms to control the imitative rivalry of human status games.
Generally these have been monarchies and religions, their main functional roles, to suck the oxygen out of status games elsewhere, freeing up a society to do other things. You don’t try to compete with Kings and gods, for status.

Why would an ally deny the request for help from another ally? Minor request, we did not ask Poland to send troops to fight Iran, just some material aid. Poland's excuse was just that, an excuse.
We saved Poland from its former Master, the USSR. We gave $Billions to Poland to help it become strong when it became a free country again. Poland's behavior was transactional. Others have different opinions.

Agree with all of this - I wrote some of those polite speeches - except we need to remember that many of our allies (Greece, Romania, Croatia, Estonia etc) helped us during this war without being a threatened or cajoled. France long been pathetic, as have Spain and Germany. Britain’s weakness is newer, though not unprecedented (remember Neville Chamberlain).
But we don’t need something new. We simply need to shift the gravity of the alliance away from “Old Europe” toward “New Europe.” Reward allies who step up, punish those who do not. Move bases from Germany to Romania, Poland, the Balts. And make clear the we will only apply Art V to dependable allies who meet their commitments.

Sorry Jonah. I actually sat in the room for the first half of the movie. For 24 polite years, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama diplomatically asked NATO members to increase defense spending. For 24 years, it was one excuse after another, all focused in Western Europe on how they wish they could spend more, but their social welfare spending priorities wouldn’t let them. In other words, you the US will spend on defense and protect us. Along comes rude Donald Trump. Finally, someone made clear that if Europe kept freeloading the US was done. It took a bill in the China shop to move Europe. Diplomacy failed. Trump prevailed. That’s reality whether you or I like it. NATO self-withered after 75 years. If Spain, England, Italy and France won’t spend what’s necessary to have a real military, it’s time for something new.
