@DaniBeckman Fair. But then so should overweight people with preventable diabetes, people who smoke, alcoholics, and homeless drug addicts. Can't have it both ways.

Anti-vax parents who bring their kids with a preventable disease to a hospital should face criminal charges. Not only did they expose a minor unnecessarily, but also a hospital full of immunocompromised people who often cannot receive their vaccine due to immunological issues.

Hi @jonstewart, I’m #oneofthetwo because I run the Long COVID clinic at Mass General Brigham where I’ve talked to thousands and thousands of people who have had their lives devastated by COVID 19. The only way to prevent Long COVID is to not contract COVID. Masking is STILL a very important part of prevention

@DrCatharineY You can't have herd immunity for a virus that mutates frequently. We don't have herd immunity for flu or the common cold or norovirus or countless others.

This is the hardest part for people to understand: Achieving herd immunity isn’t about you. It’s about reducing transmission to protect newborns, immunocompromised, the elderly - and preventing outbreaks from overwhelming health systems. So actually it makes perfect sense.

@jakescottMD Fair..but measles doesnt mutate like covid, flu or other viruses so it was never going to work even if the vaccine was 100% effective. And it's intellectually dishonest for doctors not to point out the difference.

This shouldn’t be a philosophical debate. It’s a misunderstanding of how infectious disease works. Vaccines aren’t perfect. The measles vaccine is 97% effective with two doses, not 100%, so some vaccinated people remain vulnerable. More importantly, some people can’t be vaccinated at all: infants under 12 months, immunocompromised patients, people with anaphylactic reactions to vaccine components. They depend on the rest of us not spreading a highly contagious virus to them. Measles has an R0 of 12-18, meaning each infected person spreads it to 12-18 others in an unvaccinated population. The virus can linger in the air for two hours after an infected person leaves a room. At that level of contagion, you need 92-95% vaccine coverage to stop community transmission. When coverage drops, outbreaks happen, and the people who pay the price are often those who had no choice in the matter. “My body, my choice” makes sense for decisions that affect only your body. Transmissible disease isn’t that. Your choice not to vaccinate can put a 6-month-old in the hospital or kill an immunocompromised kid who couldn’t get the shot. The question isn’t “why does it matter if I take it.” The question is whether your comfort with risk should override someone else’s right not to get infected by you.

@UsingLyft Brady also promised her he would retire and have time for the family, but he didn’t. So that’s that. Also, men who practice martial arts are on another level of calm and presence. I can see that. Plus, he’s cute and from Brazil, like her.

Might be funnier, more classically masculine, more confident, better at sex, a better person w better morals, better chemistry. I swear when I was growing up this was common knowledge. This height and money are all that matters stuff is so bizarre to me. Women aren’t that simple

@EiFSoccer Just about everyone I’ve seen is in favor of Egypt either playing the game or deciding to forfeit if they refuse to. The game itself was decided long before the draw, Egypt should either respect that decision on where they ended up, or they can forfeit.

@EiFSoccer Qatar didn't force women to wear head scarves. They didnt force the crowd to walk through a carnival of Islamic pride. The false equivalence here is mind-blowing. They said let's all just enjoy a game we both love. Who's really the intolerant ones?

@Brian1zvx @megan_feringa Its a soccer game. The rules very clearly state that there are not to be political signs, flags, etc. It's supposed to be a fun time with people coming together to enjoy each other and a game they share. Not a political pulpit to push agendas

The progress pride flag, the symbol of the LGBTQ+ community, on display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been relocated for Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Slavia Prague following a request from the visiting club. A Slavia Prague spokesperson said: “The flag with Tottenham symbols would have been placed directly in the section reserved for our fans at that moment. For this reason, it was temporarily moved to another place in the stadium and with an agreement with the home club. “This is a logical step based on respect for the space reserved for visiting fans, just as Slavia fans outside the visiting section respect the rules of not wearing our club colours or symbols.” The large flag is usually situated in the North East corner of the Spurs ground where visiting supporters are located. The Czech club made the request for its removal to UEFA on the basis of security concerns and this was granted by Spurs on safety grounds. It will instead be displayed in the South West corner of the stadium. “The flag has been relocated at the request of the visiting team to UEFA on security grounds,” a Tottenham spokesperson said. But UEFA sources, who spoke anonymously as they were not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, insisted it is the home team, in this case Tottenham, who have the final call on such decisions. Anytime I advocate for covid mitigations - people assume I want to lock them in their homes forever We could drastically limit covid transmission with the following: - Masks in healthcare - Clean air in public spaces - Free vaccines, tests & respirators - Paid time off
