(1/2) Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro @SecLazaro underscored the strategic interconnection between the Indo-Pacific and Europe at a forum in The Hague on 18 May 2026, citing a single strategic space encompassing the two regions.

(1/2) Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro @SecLazaro was feted by the members of the Philippines-Netherlands Business Council and the leaders of Filipino-Dutch community organizations at a “meet-and-greet” reception hosted by the PH Embassy of in The Hague.

Spoke with @Fiji_MFAET Foreign Minister Sakiasi R. Ditoka @sditoka as we mark 52 years of 🇵🇭–🇫🇯relations and explored new opportunities for cooperation following the opening of 🇵🇭 Embassy in Suva. We discussed migration management, maritime training, skills development, and stronger ASEAN-Pacific engagement. As fellow advocates for climate action and South-South cooperation, our partnership with Fiji and the Pacific remains a priority.

Glad to speak today for the first time at the @Clingendaelorg Forum to highlight priorities and progress of 🇵🇭’s ASEAN Chairship, and opportunities for EU-Indo-Pacific and PH-Netherlands cooperation.

We mark the 75th anniversary of 🇵🇭-🇳🇱 relations this year with my official visit to the Netherlands and a bilateral meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen @ministerBZ, strengthening partnerships in trade and investment, renewable energy, water management, and connectivity; and promoting more cultural and academic exchanges between our people in the years to come. Looking forward to sustained maritime cooperation, both in ASEAN and in the multilateral fora.

Today with PH Ambassador @malaya_ed to turnover to SecGen of The Hague Academy of International Law (THAIL) Prof. Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Philippine contribution to the Academy’s summer and winter courses scholarship program. We appreciate the long and fruitful partnership between PH and THAIL.

Discussed with the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) SecGen @Marcin_Czepelak the vital role of the PCA in peaceful settlement of disputes, conciliation, and upholding the rule of law. PH marks this year the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea, of which the PCA served as official Registry of the proceedings .

It was a pleasure to meet my good colleague, the Foreign Minister of the Philippines @SecLazaro. We explored ways to further strengthen our bilateral ties, deepen maritime security cooperation, and address shared global geopolitical challenges. I also conveyed Estonia’s intention to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, an important step toward enhancing our partnership with Southeast Asian nations.

Honored to be the first PH Secretary of Foreign Affairs to participate in the #LennartMeriConference of @ICDS_Tallinn. In the panel on “New Momentum for Indo-Pacific and Europe,” I highlighted many opportunities for cooperation between EU and the Indo-Pacific, common respect for rule of law, and importance of ASEAN centrality in addressing regional challenges.

Glad to meet at the #LennartMeriConference Irena Prelevic, Foreign Policy Advisor of the President of Montenegro, to discuss 🇵🇭 🇲🇪 tourism, consular, and multilateral cooperation.

Pleased to engage Jordanian DPM and FM @AymanHsafadi at the sidelines of the #LennartMeriConference of the @ICDS_Tallinn. Shared insights on regional challenges; and discussed prospects of even more active 🇵🇭 and 🇯🇴 partnerships, such as in trade and investments, tourism, agriculture and security.

Happy to meet again Latvia Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba, this time at the sidelines of the #LennartMeriConference of the @ICDS_Tallinn. We continued our discussions on 🇵🇭-🇱🇻 relations, including updates on PH ASEAN Chairship, regional challenges, and opportunities for even stronger cooperation on maritime security, including on critical maritime infrastructure.

Glad to be back in Estonia for my first speaking engagement in the Baltic region at #LennartMeriConference of the @ICDS_Tallinn I met Foreign Minister Margus @Tsahkna and shared updates on PH ASEAN Chairship, progress of 🇵🇭-🇪🇪 digital cooperation, highlighted 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, and sustained cooperation in the regional and multilateral fora.
