Crazy realization today. My last FT role was at a company that raised $30M+ at a $300M+ valuation. As a soloprenuer I am now making more money than that company ever was (annually). And TBH, that was the flame that sparked my initial thoughts to leave. The flame I needed to start this solopreneur business. I had built their financial model and remember thinking… “Wow, this company is making pennies per user. Not profitable. Spending millions to acquire users. Building some obscure tech product. Spending millions on salaries." ....and I just thought "I bet I can do better with just myself.” Now here I am. Crazy realization today.

We sold $7.7 million in Q1, 50% growth from Q1 last year. Simply insane. We did this even though I had planned for minimal sales growth and foundational building of my business first half of the year. I’m doing 12+ hour days daily to cope with operations to deliver all that revenue as succesfully as possible while trying to work on our foundation at the same time. This game is freaking tough, but I am having fun 👍!

Unless your numbers… (historically, across sheets, tabs, systems, and files).. Tie out exactly. To the penny. Your model (and other output) is completely useless.

@devin_j_obrien We see this a lot - cleanup for the last 2 years not a 1 week exercise that can be completed without client input. Need l lots of input and complete rebuild of processes to ensure it doesn’t happen again

One of the biggest issues with all FP&A software is messy books The analysis is limited by the data If you have messy books, shouldn't be paying for any FP&A software until they are cleaned up

8 steps for more efficient meetings (financially): Step 1) Pick an upcoming group meeting. Step 2) Back into everyone’s hourly rate on the invite list. (Salary/ avg hours worked per week/ 48 weeks) Step 3) Find the Time Worked Multiple of this meeting. (Length of meeting in minutes/60) Step 4) Calculate the cost of the meeting. (Sum of attendees' hourly rate x time worked multiple) Step 5) Be shocked at how much more this meeting costs than you expected. Step 6) Decide if the meeting needs to be as long as it currently is set for. If not, shorten it to reduce the time worked multiple. (There is no rule that meeting needs to be 30 min increments) Step 7) Decide if there’s anyone invited who is not needed and has higher value work they could be focused on. If so, mark them optional and tell them why. Reducing the total hourly rate of the meeting’s attendees. Step 8) Remember this exercise for all meetings going forward.

@LeadershipAcad1 Give them 3 months to get down to business day 5 of the month. But it’s a team effort to get there. Invoices, bills, expense reports, etc. all need to be turned in faster to get there.

We outsource bookkeeping. It’s amazing. Huge fan. Highly recommend. But they aren’t quite quick enough on the monthly reports. What should I set as a realistic expectation?
