The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) yesterday arrested a gang working under the direction of a Pakistani handler. The gang was spreading terror by setting fire to prestigious institutions, vehicles, and railway signal boxes. The main gang member, Saqib alias Devil, has been arrested. This group was connected to Pakistani handlers, radicals, and several numbers in Afghanistan. The group's primary objective was to create an atmosphere of fear in India. Videos were sent to Pakistan after carrying out small arson attacks. Money was then solicited through QR codes. Saqib had connected Vikas Gahlawat, Lokesh alias Papla, to the gang through social media. Inflammable substances, 7 mobile phones, 24 pamphlets and Aadhaar cards were recovered from the accused. She said that due to loneliness, she started following certain Instagram accounts that use AI-generated profile pictures often portraying a Hindu priest-like man and a Muslim woman. Over time, she got into conversations with one such account, which eventually led to private interactions, including nude video calls. Now, she is being blackmailed, with threats that her recordings will be sent to people in her follower list. We advised her to seek help from cybercrime authorities and file a complaint at the nearest women’s police station. She has since deleted her Instagram account and assured that she will pursue legal action. But this issue doesn’t end here. Team Rising Falcon has reported more than 50 such accounts for suspected scamming, fraud, and exploitation. However, due to weak moderation policies, many of these reports have been wrongly rejected by Instagram. We urge @GoI_MeitY to take this matter seriously and issue strict guidelines to Instagram to remove such harmful accounts and strengthen user safety mechanisms. We also request authorities to support investigation and take strict action against those running such blackmail and exploitation networks.
