So I'm crafting content for a small book and course over this winter break - heck why not? Topic not yet public! Yesterday was day 0. I’ll be documenting my naive shot at this - because again, why not? Maybe it can cajole others to give a go? At minimum I can get some helpful feedback along the way from others. Here’s what I did yesterday starting from absolute 0: 1. I recorded a brain dump video, talking about who, what, why, how etc about my idea. Somehow video recording myself "put me on the spot" and I was able to focus more on conciseness. 2. I generated a book/course outline from this. I uploaded the video to otter.ai to transcribe it. I refined it into a tentative chapter outline and dumped it into Notion. Side note: I typically like the otter.ai iOS app to quickly record my thoughts so that's why I went with that. And for some reason I'm not a huge fan of writing like this in Markdown (i.e. via Obsidian) so I'm trying Notion. I like the writing experience in Notion especially with the prospect of later collaborating with an editor later. 3. Then I recorded a brain dump video on "topic A”. So this time not a video, just for convenience. I used willowvoice.com's macOS app to just talk away for 30 minutes directly into Notion. Talking for about 30 minutes gave me roughly 2000 words. Calculating how much I need to do this gave me a lot of motivation. For example, I want to craft a book and course where someone can choose to read or consume video. For video, I want to keep it to max 2-3 hours so I'm going for 10k words per hour. Therefore I whittle it down 2000 words with heavy editing. I think that after a few weeks of repeating this process I can achieve this goal, then heavily edit the content down further. Notes for the engineers reading this (warning, needless geeking out here). I may consider just self publishing later later + host the video version on a microsite served by a simple web-app that pulls the content straight from Notion (cached of course when served up). I can later host multiple publications courses using that same web app as it could support multi-tenant (extract domain from HTTP header -> determine tenant to serve up, host on same VPS for dollars a month). @seenickcode" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@seenickcode if anyone wants to keep tabs on my progress and gain some insights. If US buy IAU, non-US by RMAU **Why difference US vs non-US citizen investing?** It's cheaper: Irish-domiciled UCITS ETFs generally pay 15% US withholding tax on dividends from US companies, compared to 30% for funds without equivalent treaty access The only proven thing in investment is that diversification works, you have less gains but less risk, ask AI how to build a nice mix of ETFs, bonds, commodities, real estate/land (p.s. ETFs are categorized as stocks cause they're just a basket of stocks), generally you want to not buy individual stocks with most of your money because it's super volatile and you're betting. It can go both ways, I bet NVIDIA in 2022 and made lots of money but I also bet Alibaba before Jack Ma was arrested and lost 90%! This is not financial advice

✨ I think I've been coding almost solely on my VPS with Claude Code for almost a year now All I can say it's just fantastic: - no need to keep laptop open ever - no laptop battery drain - can switch to phone or any other device you like whenever you want to continue (like when you're outside) - it just keeps going all night while you sleep (esp with /goal) - you can start hacky projects from scratch and go live in seconds because you're already on the server which is great to ship things and get it used by people fast (not stuck on your local laptop webserver) - it just feels like living in the future I used to code on my laptop, test locally, then push to GitHub, then it auto pulled and deploy to production, that'd take me ~1 minute to get a new feature out But then when I bought a new Mac Book Pro a few years ago I was too lazy to install a local Nginx environment, so I just started pushing to prod and everything went fine, and I sped up deploying to about 3 seconds from laptop to server, which people called me crazy for too But now with Claude Code on my VPS in the last year, it just live edits on my production server, which sounds like it should go wrong but it just doesn't, it's very careful and only twice in 12 months messed up which meant my site didn't load for 10 seconds which is OK If I wasn't working solo, like at a big company, I' think I'd recommend the same workflow but with a staging server, so it wouldn't touch production, for safety and regulatory reasons etc. but for me it's fine I agree with @theo completely, it's clear to me this is where it's going, also seeing @karpathy with Claude moving to the cloud (via Slack etc), I think AI "agents" and AI coding will operate on servers / from the cloud first P.S. I have 3-2-1 backups, multiple on-site and off-site backups which you should also even if you wouldn't code with AI, safety first!

Apple just made Docker Desktop optional on Mac. And it is completely free. This is apple/container. 26.5k stars no Github. You can now run Linux containers natively on your Mac without installing Docker Desktop, without a background daemon hogging your RAM, and without paying $21 a month per developer for a commercial license. Here is what it does: → Runs Linux containers as lightweight VMs directly on Apple Silicon using macOS 26 virtualization → Fully OCI compatible. Pull any image from Docker Hub, GitHub Container Registry or anywhere else → Written in Swift and optimised specifically for Apple Silicon. Faster and lighter than anything Docker Desktop does on Mac → Standard container CLI syntax. If you know Docker commands you already know how to use this → Push images you build to any standard container registry and run them anywhere Docker Desktop charges $21 per developer per month for commercial use. Apple's version costs nothing and ships as open source under Apache-2.0. Microsoft made Docker Desktop optional on Windows with WSL Containers last month. Apple just did the same on Mac.
