This makes me curious about the role of federal crop subsidies. Do they play a role in the continuation of high water use crops in the southwest?

Driving home from a Gates of Lodore trip, I saw dozens of new well pads and roads under construction along Highway 40 just south of Dinosaur. The put-in road to Cross Mtn Canyon now has several well pads on it. That landscape will be marred for decades.
