@CJetty26 There were crazy engagement traps back then too: I wasted summers in high school on vidya. But on street and at parties there was energy everywhere. I can’t pinpoint when/why that changed. Life is still same in EU cities (they have iphones). America has always been particular..

@sentitive Me too. I had great times in my teens and twenties, but honestly if the phones had been this "optimized for engagement" back then, I would have been cooked. It sucks.

I similarly enjoyed street canvassing in 2009. Subjecting myself to the numbing stream of passersby, catching adventure with loose people I met. Charming the women to bed & the gay men to monthly dues. As wild teenager in those times any social job was fun. I feel for youth now.

@staysaasy @sentitive I delivered food in downtown LA in 2005 and 2006. It was, indeed, the best job ever. Fill up two big bags, skate or drive to the delivery, hand them over, collect cash. I saw everything, from skid row hovels to floor to ceiling marbled suites built to intimidate. bring me back.

@DGrovelover @sentitive I lean strongly against 1980 as being “the most haunted” year but was interested in any justification for the claim. So far not much. If we’re picking that general era it would be a few years earlier because the late 70’s were apeshit

I think ancient Grek architecture is the standard and last word in architecture as pure aesthetic art (as opposed to utility) but great architect of 1500’s Andrea Palladio didn’t just imitate, he had his own style inspired by antiquity. Trad nostalgia is sterile….
