@bronzeagemantis Ironically for Camille, it’s become a lesbian world and it turns out lesbian art sucks

@bronzeagemantis Regarding anime as last vestige of romantic ideal and decline of mass pop culture: In America romantic drive is now snuffed out everywhere. Men arent allowed to make their own art. Lust (for someone, a feeling, the unknown), the driver of all great work, made illegal.

@CJetty26 There were crazy engagement traps back then too: I wasted summers in high school on vidya. But on street and at parties there was energy everywhere. I can’t pinpoint when/why that changed. Life is still same in EU cities (they have iphones). America has always been particular..

@sentitive Me too. I had great times in my teens and twenties, but honestly if the phones had been this "optimized for engagement" back then, I would have been cooked. It sucks.

I similarly enjoyed street canvassing in 2009. Subjecting myself to the numbing stream of passersby, catching adventure with loose people I met. Charming the women to bed & the gay men to monthly dues. As wild teenager in those times any social job was fun. I feel for youth now.

@staysaasy @sentitive I delivered food in downtown LA in 2005 and 2006. It was, indeed, the best job ever. Fill up two big bags, skate or drive to the delivery, hand them over, collect cash. I saw everything, from skid row hovels to floor to ceiling marbled suites built to intimidate. bring me back.

How to cite hauntedness? The momentum of the post-war projects was spent, cities hollowed out, all that blood obscured in dust. Out of those ruins a new world fast under construction: the financial district, America as economic zone. How it felt stepping across there and here.
CT Lucero@CTLucero194512

@DGrovelover @sentitive I lean strongly against 1980 as being “the most haunted” year but was interested in any justification for the claim. So far not much. If we’re picking that general era it would be a few years earlier because the late 70’s were apeshit

@bronzeagemantis Looks like a California college campus in the best way. CA was once where the most energetic architects perfected western forms. Everywhere stretched Italinate mansions, redwood burl, Mayan deco, Mediterranean revival: fruit of the frontier and the last real free men:

@1VeryChillDude It’s diagonal from SFMOMA and that empty space is now the Moscone center. Here’s some stills from 1977 sexploitation film (most 70s porn was filmed in SF) in industrial ruins of McCovey cove. The white warehouse is where the stadium is now

San Francisco in 1980. Maybe the most haunted year in American history. Having demolished the old sensibilities, every city naked in the noon air of a Nevada ghost boom town

@QuetzalPhoenix I hate that America's most beautiful cities are so liberal. San Fran is also one of the most beautiful cities in the most beautiful setting in the world.

Julius Evola on the harem as a kind of ascetical practice for women. "The spirit animating the harem consisted in the struggle to overcome jealousy and thus the passionate selfishness and the woman's natural inclination to possess the man."
