The private sector failed to prevent a housing crisis, failed to solve it and is now the crisis itself. Treating housing and land as a casino is a fool's gamble but the rich and politicians kept uppung the ante. What Canada needs instead is democratic planning for public housing.

I don't understand the canadians aversion to simply taking the NJT route and speeding up existing trains so that they can interline with high speed services for the 20 mile approach to the city.

This is a viaduct. Viaducts are 2-5x cheaper than tunnels. This is how you bring High Speed Rail to downtown Toronto in the fastest, cheapest, least expropriative manner. Beautiful isn't it?

This is honestly sad because we’ve been experiencing a shortage of bus operators. Immigrants filling these jobs is a win-win.
I get the frustration around temp foreign workers taking up entry level jobs at Tim Hortons during a youth unemployment crisis but this is not the same.

@DGrovelover I refuse to believe that the average house in Scarborough is net positive for city finances just for basic upkeep of sewers, trash collection, snow removal. And that’s before frills like PFR and libraries!

Scarborough exists to fund infrastructure in east York and the rest of the city with their taxes. It’s a reason there’s no subway over there even though it’s the most populated borough in the city.
