@thunderf00t Starship's heatshield doesn't need to be refurbished is because it blows up at launch. Truly a genius move.

@puddy811 @serendistant @PebMet1 @thunderf00t That would work. However that would require you to have the object intact after use, to allow for a proper study of the "damage". After 12 flights not 1 single starship was even close to "good enough to investigate metal wear properly" So that does not look like the plan to me.

@Arduino_jantje @PebMet1 @thunderf00t Having a heatshield thats reasonably above the bare minimum saves mass, while still providing margin for error. They need to know the bare minimum to account for such margin. Just like how SH lands w/ high AoA it means less fuel for landing which saves mass & means more to orbit

@Arduino_jantje @PebMet1 @thunderf00t It shows how much margin the have, and if a ship cans survive fully intact with a severely degraded heat shield, then it's trivial if it comes back with a perfect one. Its also no different than how they optimize the landing burn of Falcon and SH to use as little fuel as possible

@dehgrape gets even worse once you start distinguishing between decimal (Gigabytes) and binary (Gibibytes) and how Windows has them improperly labelled, which is why your 1TB drive shows up as 0.9 TB (bc windows is actually showing TiB but not telling you)

I know @SpaceX and @elonmusk followers will not be honest: If it were @NASA , @ulalaunch, @blueorigin developing Starship, would you still follow it? Most of you would say it is a piece of junk or what are we doing if it were anyone else but SpaceX/Musk developing it.

@PebMet1 @thunderf00t Yes. Thats exactly what I said. They were playing around with using new METALLIC tiles, instead of the *proven* CERAMIC ones. Thats whats causing the orange color, since it's the metallic tiles degrading from the heat. Again, theyre trying to figure out what the BARE MINIMUM is.

@serendistant @thunderf00t Looking at what happend with previous flights, it appeared they were still playing around with it.

@PebMet1 @thunderf00t Obviously they're not new lmao, I don't think I ever said they were?? Flight 12 was them using a normal heat shield that wasn't intentionally degraded like previous flights, and it worked perfectly fine. (They already had it figured out btw)

@collin_ruth89 Even better, Extended Range Electric Vehicles. Simply a small generator instead of an engine that is dedicated to charging the battery instead of also moving the car forward. Simpler and more efficient.

I don’t understand why every vehicle isn’t a hybrid. Why not use regenerative braking to charge a battery in every car? Huge increase in gas mileage. Why do they still make non-hybrids?

@EagleAIView The thing with ground infrastructure is that they don't have a mass budget like the ship, they can just add more water suppression, more foundations, more shielding, etc

@thunderf00t I don't think a single sole, other than grifters like you, have claimed that Flight 12 was supposed to be fully reusable

Anyone in the @starship and @elonmusk follower world who uses logic? Musk claims a launch of starship every hour in the future. What are they launching and why do such a giant vehicle to do it? At last look, @SpaceX does not do science on its own. You need someone else.

For those @elonmusk and @SpaceX followers who claim the Raptor 3 is new and to expect some issues because of it, the BE-4 for New Glenn and Vulcan is also a brand new engine. Don't hear excuses about that.
