@RogersHistory Yes, tribunal in April, tutoring and running my own business. More headspace. Holidays whenever I like at cheaper prices. I can have a wee when I need to. Feel sorry for colleagues who do nowt but complain but won’t change their lot in life #Wellbeing

@autismtalknd Because EG ‘identifying as a boy’ leads to the question ‘what does a boy look/act like’ which makes no sense

Why do you think the autistic community is so relaxed about gender nonconformity?

@PastoralKaty ❤This! I refused school because I didn't feel safe and felt the prejudice of some unhealthy teachers. 100% attendance 18mths later when I felt safe and cared about in another setting. Not letters, not meetings, not fines, (not more trauma)! Genuine connection and compassion.

Question - If you could put a 'random' subject into the curriculum that currently isn't, what would it be?

Genuine question for teachers. How on earth do you have time to check emails when you teach all day? Like, when do you do it apart from lunch? When I’m teaching, I never set a task and then sit while students do it, I always circulate, offer help, etc. So where is the time?!

First post in ages…melted… took some of our medical provision (all EBSA) on a BOAT TRIP today. They managed the venue, wearing a buoyancy aid, the sound of the boat engine, talking to the skipper, a few ate a snack and ALL of them stood outside on deck at some point 🥰

AUDIBLE I've got another 10 hour round trip later this week - what should I listen to? I'd love your audible recommendations, preferably non-fiction; please tell me what you loved recently and why...

If you had one piece of advice for someone seriously considering going into teaching, what would it be? (Keep it positive, please! No extra points for 'Don't do it!' 😃) #edutwitter

IDEAS PLEASE! Simple switches in the words we use to talk to and about children with SEND can make a big difference I'm currently collating a list of words to lose and substitute - what do you think should be included?

A question from my small one. She picks her fingers. They are so painful. She has had CBT but it's habitual as well as anxiety. Has tangle toy but needs two hands occupied to make it helpful. Allergic to plasters. What are our options?

For our EBSA cohort it’s largely sensory: corridors, canteen, uniform…then there’s cognitive lack of safety: speaking or reading in front of the class… then there’s emotional lack of safety: lack of relationships with trusted adults. These are among the most common.

EBSA / SCHOOL ANXIETY What barriers get in the way of children attending school in your experience I think they are many and varied I'd really welcome an exchange of ideas on this, please Please RT & reply in thread

SCHOOL NURSES - EBSA Has anyone developed a pathway to support autistic children to access school taking into account sensory overload, reducing barriers to attendance, addressing anxiety, implementing reasonable adjustments etc (Q from a school nurse but I am keen to know too)

My biggest takeaway from a visiting Psychiatrist to my medical site was that our most helpful response to a child’s request to change pronouns is to respect the request with no questions. They need: ACCEPTANCE 🥰

The student who threatened me got a 2 day suspension and will be reinstated on Tuesday since we have a long weekend. You best believe I’ll be in that reinstatement meeting.
