@TeachLeadAAli Unfortunately it is unlikely that whatever you say will make a difference and as you said bringing attention to his little ones. Very sad :(

I was going to reply to a massively racist tweet. Then I remember my rule. Never reply to an anon account. But this account has a pic of the person, and his children. So I thought I won’t bring attention to them. But wow. Tiring. Upsetting and regular.

@Clive_Hill I still thank my teacher Lee Bryant :D . I'm not sure how my students will remember me, but also think the idea that how you are viewed is how people talk about you when you aren't in the room. I know its not always favourable for me, I've made mistakes.

9 years since I submitted my first education-related academic work. As a teacher, you will be remembered (see acknowledgements). How would students remember you? #Edutwitter #teachersofx

As some of you know, the only thing I share on here (other than education) is how proud I am of my daughter, Mali Mali had a liver transplant at 6 months old @TActive_BTG Last year she won TWO gold medals in the pool at the British Transplant Games. We were incredibly proud.

One of the things that strikes me is the difference between people who have experience of working with people with TS, and those who have not. Like many people in education, I've worked with students living with Tourettes, and the approach we learned was support, sympathy, and accommodations for the dreadful circumstances of people who cannot control these processes. Sometimes life can be hell for them, and the only way to reduce that hell even fractionally is by acceptance and understanding. When they cannot change, we must change around them. It's sad, and probably understandable why people who have not worked with TS sufferers cannot understand as well, or sympathise as they should. But that isn't an excuse now that information is so freely available.

Three things that have been said to me in the last month while my #Tourettes has started firing up while out shopping: "People like you shouldn't be out in public" "You need locking away" "I'll f*cking kill you" The last was by a lad in a group who proceeded to drive me away with with threats of physical violence. This is just three of the most egregious reactions I've had in the space of a month. Now imagine that happens every month, every year. Can you see why we feel ostracised? Why we're often afraid to go out? I don't just tic words. I jerk my head, flail my arms. I meow, and cluck like a chicken. I blow raspberries until my lips are sore, I click my tongue over and over again. Can you imagine how embarrassing this is? Getting laughed at everywhere? And then words come out and laughter turns to disgust & threats.
