@tara_taylor Few thoughts: 1. The focus NEEDS to be on retention, not just recruitment. There’s a reason so many teachers leave in the first 5 years. 2. Now, if they eventually decide not to teach, they don’t have an undergrad. 3. Seems like gov will do anything but fix the actual issues.🤷🏻‍♀️

I teach many undergrads who go on to become teachers. There is a HUGE difference between 2 and 4 years of undergrad. Math teachers will not have a deeper understanding of what math is all about. And we will lose math majors. Who was consulted for this?

This NYT piece is an endless stream of bangers. I swear, one of the more destructive recent cultural trends has been the combined push to frame all distress or discomfort as mental illness, and then to encourage people to form their identity around being “mentally ill.”

@tara_taylor I think it's great that he realizes this, and that as long as invites aren't being sent via the classroom (which is typically no longer allowed to happen for this reason), then it's not an issue. Also, as a super introverted kid, a whole-class party would have been my nightmare!

I understand the point that we don’t want kids to feel left out. But my 6yo, who is autistic, didn’t want more than 5 kids at his party. I was proud of him for recognizing that his sensory skills overload would go into overdrive. So he should have had no party?

It's *not all students* but so many are struggling. I'm trying to figure out a way to make the next few weeks bearable for me and them, and to help them see the big picture of why I am trying to help them learn what I am trying to teach. It's keeping me up at night.

Yes. I can vividly recall being paired up with loud boys with the worst behaviour. I was quiet and shy and did the work. Having a bit of an epiphany here at how this has played out through my whole life.

i fully believe that a girls first encounter with misogyny happens as early as kindergarten-elementary school when the teacher sits her in between the badly behaved boys because her being forced to babysit them and suffer their behavior as well, matters more than her education
