Devon and Cornwall Police have said the investigation is at an early stage and is not currently being treated as terrorism or believed to be politically motivated. Nobody deserves to be murdered. I have received death threats. They have been reported. They should be taken seriously. If Ann Widdecombe received death threats, they should have been taken just as seriously. Nobody should have to wonder whether the next hateful message will become reality. Ann Widdecombe spent decades in public life. She served as a Conservative MP from 1987 to 2010 and was Prisons Minister under John Major. Later she became associated with the Brexit Party and Reform UK. I am not going to soften that record because she has died. People ask me a question often. How can you defend someone whose beliefs work against you? How can you speak up for people who would not speak up for you? My answer is always the same. Because I believe in human rights for every person on this planet. Not selectively. Not conditionally.
