That hasn't been missed. Simpler. Better. Cheaper. They are better than the old giants, but GoTyme and other new entrants can offer the same experience without the overhead and the risks that I have spoken about. I can't take away from them that they changed banking locally, but this was happening globally anyway. It was technology and digitalisation that was ultimately pushing the disruption.

@sharetwits the author might be missing capitec's extremely effective marketing/sales model of extreme focus on transparency of costs. +the simplicity of their products. as well as their very secure (my experience) AAA platform accross their products (bolstered by simplicity in design).

@mommy_moneyza This issue of 'kiting' was what I raised with Capitec in regard to their business banking as they lend based on the cash-flows that they see and how their model scores it not on any application. They should be asking for financial information and a declaration.

@sharetwits 3/…. The credit models are very accurate in predicting behaviour of the consumer & they don’t disclose that amount because it might be very scary and I think a lot of consumers are currently “kite flying” - using credit to pay off credit. Capitec has very rich data imo

@mommy_moneyza I was not aware of that, if true then I suppose it is the NCR that should challenge them on this?

@sharetwits The last thing I want to add, the National Credit Act only allows credit bureaus & credit providers to DISPLAY 2years of credit data on consumers but Capitec has 20+years of data on micro lending /unbanked market that they can use in credit models without us knowing

#CPI #Capitec results are due out on 22 April. I probably won’t bother watching them this year. This is really my swan-song on a company that I had become a little obsessed about. I really hope that @viceroyresearch @AIMhonesty don’t have to waste further time with a lawsuit that is now more about ego than substance. I personally believe that markets are made by people on both sides who are entitled to strong opinions on both sides. Unfortunately, the short-sellers often need to tip-toe around until they are finally vindicated, but truthfully, regulators should rather step back and ask whether the analysis can be justified with data and they should pose the difficult questions to the companies, instead of rushing to their side to help them. As I said in my book Boland Bankers Behaving Badly, which is now no longer in print, that it was the fact that regulators took the side of the company before checking the allegations that really got my attention. Hopefully this article will give auditors, analysts and regulators some food-for-thought, but if it doesn’t, that is till fine. I have said the last that I need to say about this company, save than to post this article on my Substack on my website.
