@bornagainsteph all you need to remember is "who is your king?" if it is still jesus; then you are still a "real christian"; ask for the king's forgiveness (mortification of the body); but also ask the king for spirit-filled strength against sin (vivification).

I used to be so on fire for God… in church, praying, in the Word, worshiping constantly. Lately, I’ve fallen away from all of it. I keep falling into the same sins over and over, and I don’t even feel like a real Christian anymore. I need deliverance. I need prayers.

Listen to the voice of Sol Plaatje in this first recording of "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika", made on October 16, 1923, in London, England, by Sol T Plaatje himself, accompanied by Sylvia Colenso on the piano.

@sharetwits they offered SIMPLER. BETTER. CHEAPER. way way way before tech was cool. could actually argue that the tech they initially used was way out of date as fnb was leading the way for a while before anyone caught up.

That hasn't been missed. Simpler. Better. Cheaper. They are better than the old giants, but GoTyme and other new entrants can offer the same experience without the overhead and the risks that I have spoken about. I can't take away from them that they changed banking locally, but this was happening globally anyway. It was technology and digitalisation that was ultimately pushing the disruption.

@sharetwits the author might be missing capitec's extremely effective marketing/sales model of extreme focus on transparency of costs. +the simplicity of their products. as well as their very secure (my experience) AAA platform accross their products (bolstered by simplicity in design).

@karidas_ my current thinking is you have to just build a 'boring' (but aligned) business first. dti, etc only respect business success (they fund established corporates/company-executives, not startups!). e.g. discovery, a full-blown technology company, they just sold insurance first.

Building a tech business in South Africa is incredibly tough. A lot of the incredible stories that we celebrate are anomalies - they are not the norm. A lot still needs to be done. Especially when it comes to very early stage risk capital.

'Theologia Cultus Divini (“Theology of Divine Worship”)' I have an obsession re: the Topic given my denominational backgroundS (and rsa debates re: ancestral veneration). If any publisher is interested in such a project, hit me up! @BUBookstore @JonathanBallPub @penguinusa

BREAKING: VC firm Hummingbird is raising $800 million to back "unemployable founders" who are too intense and may be overlooked by other investors. Hummingbird was an early backer of Kraken and Lovable, and all of their funds have returned 10x (solid VC performance is 3x).

We're looking for more great teams and startups to join Lovable. Many of the people in key roles at Lovable were founders right before joining us. We've built our culture in a way that makes founder-types thrive internally, being able to act autonomously and drive initiatives. If you've built something interesting and want to keep building at scale, reach out to @daniellot_theo.

I'm seeing African founders building some really, really interesting things these days, going deep into what is structurally changing with the use of AI. I mean everything from semiconductors to robotics to oil & gas to pharma to fish. For the first time, our pipeline isn't absolutely dominated by fintech and its happened faster than I thought it would. It's also increasingly clear that the bottleneck on "venture backability" on the continent is shifting from product to customer discovery & sales. Given what's possible, there's so much more market to take, but it's also never been easier to spin up quality software and hardware to tackle exciting problems. However, the very best teams we come across can sell convincingly and early to 'lighthouse' customers and permeate their workflows before the crowd catches up. They can then validate the shape and size of that demand, tailor and compound their intelligence using proprietary data, and go out to lock down a fundraising advantage. Flywheel spins.
