The HMRC tax code is one of the largest in the world, estimated to contain around 10 million words.
That’s 13 x more words than the Bible and 17 x more than The Lord of the Rings Trilogy!
It includes taxes dating back to the 17th century and needs an army of 65,000 staff to manage it, costing over £6 billion a year.
And many tax payers are totally confused by it.
It should be modernised, simplified and digitised to reduce costs and deliver better value to the public.
