I’m surprised by how little attention basic fiscal policy issues are getting in 2026 compared to fifteen years ago — the case for freaking out about the budget deficit has gotten way stronger since Covid. slowboring.com/p/time-to-frea…

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend

@AJManaseer @FrankCalabrese It probably didn’t make sense to have both Augusta and Grand have protected bike lanes. One would have probably been sufficient to capture that bike traffic headed east-west

@FrankCalabrese @shaunhundle They make sense on a street like Milwaukee. No one would have complained if they stuck to streets like that where they make sense.

The bike lane people have woken the sleeping giant: the 99% of people who are inconvenienced by them. Bike lanes are an idea born of Woke Era nonsense and anti-car hysteria. People who think they are eco-friendly are wrong. The congestion and longer drive times negate the carbon offset of the 1% of commutes that convert to bikes. The safety argument falls apart when you learn the bike lane lobby doesn’t support the single action you can take to make riding a bike safer: wearing a helmet. (They oppose helmet mandates because they lower overall bike ridership, which lowers the bike lobby’s political clout.) Even if this aldermanic challenger running on an anti bike lane platform loses, we have still seen the peak of the bike lane nonsense. They are becoming too hot of a potato for the average politician to stick their neck out for. We’re winning. No more tyranny of the minority.

Didn’t expect to kick off my 2027 aldermanic thread w/a bike lanes story, but here we are: chicagotribune.com/2026/05/25/chi… 1st, 3rd & 12th ward cameos along w/Urban Center fingerprint. We’ll get a preview of their impact in school board races, they’ve been doing some targeted organizing.

@WaldeClayton @2024dion No. ORD’s airfield is very large with more runways than any other passenger airport in the world, so it can look desolate from outside your plane window. But there has been development on all sides of the perimeter of the airport since at least the mid 90s if not earlier

@2024dion I could be wrong, but when i went there as a kid in like 2009, I could’ve sworn O’Hare was in the middle of no where with hardly anything surrounding it. Did that much development take place since then?

@blueskies_sean @FlipperiPerri @2024dion What’s needed at ORD are additional gates, not more runways. The new terminal project will add some gates but more satellite concourses will be needed in the future. No need for a new airport, just more gates

@laurenhtexas This myth has been around forever. Most people don’t know how much intense work (regular heavy lifting + the right diet) and time it takes in order to get “bulky”

Lifting weights will not make you look “bulky” unless you specifically eat and train to look that way. You will not look masculine or like a dude. Do I look bulky or like a man to you?? Pls. Just grab the weights

Its wild that Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) doesn’t get more coverage. He’s admitted to multiple affairs with patients while working as a doctor, encouraged a mistress to get an abortion despite being pro-life, and threatened his first ex-wife with a gun multiple times He’s still been in Congress since 2011

@daveweigel I think it’s gotta be Jayapal’s district in Seattle, you’re basically looking for the maximum number of non-black Dems in the electorate.

Incorrect Im 40 and we never got fast food unless there was a special occasion Eating out was a luxury and has been through most of history We packed lunches most of the time because we couldn't afford anything else This is a common story among most of the country
Raven@raven_brah

Boomers seem to forget that fast food used to be a normal, everyday expense for them because it was affordable. You could get a burger easily on minimum wage, it wasn’t some fancy treat you had once a year as a reward for pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.
