Agree. I have to say that the “progressive”/ woke Western youth are similar. They don’t waive a 🇺🇸. Instead, they waive a 🏳️‍⚧️or something (it used to be feminist, BLM, or 🏳️‍🌈). These people cannot find a job that allows them to afford an apartment and pay back their $100k student loan. They waive whatever “progressive” flag they are given because it is free.

The lower-class American who believes it most fiercely is not foolish. He is the most successful product of the most successful ideological project in history. He has been given, in place of healthcare, the pride of empire. In place of job security, the comfort of superiority. In place of a political system that responds to his interests, the feeling that at least his country is the "most powerful," the "most important," the "main character." He drives an hour to a job that doesn't pay him enough, without benefits, without security, through infrastructure that is visibly crumbling, past towns that have been economically hollowed out by the same trade policy his government calls an achievement, And he waves the flag at the game on Friday night and means it. Not because he's stupid. Because the flag is the only thing he has been given that doesn't cost him anything to have. The identity is free. Everything else costs money he doesn't have. The ruling class that gave him the flag instead of a living wage understood the transaction completely. He was not told about it.

The most disingenuous part of American propaganda is that the elites who promoted the "idea" of American exceptionalism convinced many lower-class Americans AND THEMSELVES that the United States is the 'best country in the world'. Over time, Americans have started believing this propaganda themselves, which discourages them from looking at other countries and reflecting on what makes 'those' societies function well. This is probably one of the most underrated problems tied to "American exceptionalism" and the lack of American geopolitical understanding.

Araghchi absolutely RIPS at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting in New Delhi. A lesson to all BRICS and BRICS+ partners. Actually, a mini-manifesto: "To virtually everyone in this room, our resistance against US bullying is not an unfamiliar battle. So many of us encounter slight variations of the same repugnant coercion. It is high time for us to jointly step up and work towards making clear that those practices belong in the dustbin of history. Today, our nations are closer to one another than ever before, and we cannot ignore the common and dangerous challenge we all face. History has shown that empires in decline will stop at nothing to arrest their inevitable fates. A wounded animal will desperately claw and roar on its way down."

Here is the part that makes it a masterpiece rather than just a manipulation: Both groups believe, genuinely, that the other group is the problem. The working-class nationalist looks at the progressive graduate and sees someone who hates his country, looks down on his culture, has been brainwashed by universities he paid for with his taxes, and wants to dismantle everything he was raised to believe in. The progressive graduate looks at the working-class nationalist and sees someone who votes against his own interests, is complicit in oppression, has been radicalized by algorithms, and stands in the way of a more just society. Both readings contain partial truth. Both miss the structural truth entirely. Because the structural truth is that both of them are being economically gutted by the same class. That the same lobbying apparatus that blocked the working man's union also created the debt that trapped the graduate. That the same financial system that hollowed out his town also made her rent unaffordable. That truth requires them to see each other as allies. And an alliance between those two groups is the only thing that has ever genuinely threatened the people at the top. Which is why so much energy, money, and media is spent making sure that alliance never forms. The flags are not just compensation. The flags are the walls of the maze.

“What drove the men who built Western civilization was not happiness. It was something older, deeper, and harder to name. The Greeks called it kleos: the glory that survives death.” “As a Russian person, we have a different mission. It is something that stretches Beyond the horizon. It is something spiritual. It is something to do with the Maker." -- Vladimir Putin

Napoleon studied Caesar. Caesar wept before a statue of Alexander. Alexander wanted to be Achilles. The greatest men the West ever produced were all trying to become the same Greek warrior... Alexander the Great kept a copy of the Iliad under his pillow. His tutor Aristotle had personally annotated an edition for him. According to Plutarch, when Alexander arrived at the ruins of Troy in 334 BC, he sacrificed at the tomb of Achilles and ran naked around it. He told the priests offering to show him Paris's harp that he had no interest in seeing the harp of a coward. "I would far rather see the lyre of Achilles," he said, "which he used to sing the glories of brave men." Three centuries later, in 69 BC, Julius Caesar was serving as quaestor in Spain when he stood in front of a statue of Alexander in the temple of Hercules at Cadiz. He was thirty-two: the same age at which Alexander had died, having already conquered most of the known world. Caesar wept. When his friends asked why, he answered, according to Plutarch: "Do you not think it is matter for sorrow that while Alexander, at my age, was already king of so many peoples, I have as yet achieved no brilliant success?" Eighteen centuries after that, Napoleon Bonaparte sat for his coronation portrait wearing a golden laurel wreath, modelled on the wreath of Julius Caesar. He carried with him on campaign the works of Plutarch and Caesar's own commentaries. Each of these men was reaching back, through the centuries, to the figure who came first. And that figure was a half-mortal Greek warrior who, when offered the choice between a long, quiet life and a short, glorious one, chose glory. The Greek name Akhilleus is most plausibly derived from akhos, meaning grief, and laos, meaning people. The grief of the people. The greatest hero of the Western imagination is not named for victory or for strength. He is named for sorrow... But that is the bargain: to choose greatness in the Achilles tradition is to choose a particular kind of suffering. Alexander died at thirty-two. Caesar was murdered by his closest friends. Napoleon ended his life on an island in the South Atlantic, looking at the sea. Each of them got what Achilles got: a name that has outlasted empires, and a life that was paid for in full. What drove the men who built Western civilization was not happiness. It was something older, deeper, and harder to name. The Greeks called it kleos: the glory that survives death. Achilles got there first. Three thousand years later, men are still trying to follow him... -- -- -- If you enjoyed this, I write a weekly newsletter read by over 50,000 people who love rediscovering the beauty of the past. The US isn’t just distancing itself from Zelensky. It’s using his own people to do it. Yulia Mendel, his former press secretary just sat down with Tucker Carlson. The platform, the timing, the source. None of this is accidental. That’s not a break. That’s a controlled demolition.

Euphemism Translator: Look at this medicalized male we are declaring “the prettiest girl in the world.” A boy put on cross-sex hormones in adolescence chemically suppressing his own puberty, sterilizing his body, and locking in lifelong medical dependency which were now hold up as the feminine ideal. We celebrate this through magazine covers, red carpets, and captions to recruit more children to this pathway, letting them know the social rewards that await. More sterilized boys, more confused girls, more adolescent mental health collapse rebranded as identity. The category casualty is the point. If a medicalized boy can be called “girl,” then “girl” means nothing and once the category dissolves, no female space, sport, prison, locker room, marriage, or family survives it.
