@anntreneman I live 1 mile from a tip but have to travel 25 miles to the tip that's in my county. I'm 200 metres from the county boundary!

@Eclipsedbyevil @NationalEclipse Rare for it to end exactly at sunrise and sunset but I've seen 20 total eclipses and many end near sunset. I was in Madagascar in 2001. Do you want me to name them all?

@shindles @NationalEclipse We are trying to say that it is rare for the eclipse end at sunset on LAND. It always starts at sunrise and ends at sunset, but typically over the ocean, not at land.

Not sure exactly why, but the last few days has seen a huge surge in online searches about the 2027 total solar eclipse. That one will feature an incredible 6 minutes of totality. But don't forget there's an "ordinary" 2-minute long total eclipse coming up next year too.

@prodrive Isobel Bragg is in denial about our visit last Wednesday, despite emails days before we were turned away from our car club visit having travelled from London. Very unprofessional. Beware organising visits to them, they are not to be trusted!

For the last few days, some people have been reporting a weird-looking sun in the sky. Some say it's from wildfire smoke, or an atmospheric magnification of Mars, or even a new rogue planet. Whatever the case, the only weird-looking Sun we're interested in will happen on 8/12/26.

@NationalEclipse Please use the international standard date format dd/mm/yyyy not the silly illogical US format. Think of confusion on eclipses that occur in June or July

Headlines like this, from @timesofindia, are just the worst: "Solar Eclipse on August 2: The World Will Go Dark for 6 Minutes" This August 2? NOPE. Global darkness? NOPE. This eclipse will actually occur in 2027, along a very narrow path.

@Eclipsedbyevil Yeah, it's a pretty unusual eclipse, actually. It's also a sunset eclipse, since the path ends near land.

@JAMA_current It is safe to watch totality just read NASA report for an accurate answer: When the bright photosphere of the Sun is completely covered, only the faint light from the corona is visible, and this radiation is too weak to have any harmful effects on the human retina.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, totally or partly obscuring the image of the sun. This JAMA Patient Page describes solar eclipses and how to view them safely. ja.ma/4c8vYU8

@TicketSource Don't waste your money on their refund option as they haven't paid me for a Covid cancellation. They required a doctor's certificate, which was impossible to get. I set a copy of the test kit.

@13Troll13 Your picture is of an annular eclipse. For total eclipses you can watch without glasses during totality. Can even use binoculars. Be ready for the end of totality though, listen to the experts.

@SolEclipseInfo my new Bradt travel guide 'Solar Eclipses 2024-2027' will help you decide where to see the next solar eclipse. The 2023 eclipse in Exmouth WA was my 19th total solar eclipse.

@timesfeedback Why can't people use 'decimated' correctly? In a recent issue of the Times one of the columnists used 'decimated by half'! Decimated means reduced by one tenth.
