This morning we held our #PMPrizesBreakfast to honour the recipients of these prestigious prizes. The Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science, said, “as much as science values the rational, there is something very human about the pursuit. And you have to be stubborn and determined in the face of doubts. I admire that greatly and want to thank you, because in the absence of that, we may not be where we are.”

Love this memory from @Science_Academy new Fellow Prof. Arthur Georges. The moral of the story...... take your little ones to Australia's home of science, the @ShineDome, it may leave a strong impression on them and help them decide what they want to do for a career! #ShineDome24

"My father realised that I had an interest in science," recalls Distinguished Professor Arthur Georges FAA (@UniCanberra). "He was a politician and he brought me to Canberra quite often and one year, he took me across to show me the Shine Dome." Arthur, now a world-leading ecologist and herpetologist, is set to return to the Dome next month to be inducted into the Academy at #ShineDome24. "[My father] explained that it was the centre of academic life for scientists. As is anyone who sees it for the first time, I was really impressed. But back then in 1968, it was really out of the ordinary. That memory stayed with me forever." Arthur will be inducted into the Academy today along with 21 other new Fellows as part of our four-day annual event, Science at the Shine Dome. 🎥 Watch: bit.ly/SATS24 📷 Photo taken by Arthur when he first visited the @ShineDome in 1968.
