I studied at university but my own Mum was not afforded the same opportunity as me. She did eventually attend university much later in life doing post-graduate nursing and finished her career helping others to become nurses. We said last night we had big news, witches, and we do. But we’re a little worried because we think this news won’t be the BIG BIG BIG news people want to hear, and we’ll thus get abused by those who want Kyle to get off the airwaves. It is, though, big big news for our #VileKyle campaign, even if some witches don’t get the implications of this yet. The news is this: both yesterday and today, the Kyle and Jackie O Show broadcast in Sydney featured not one skerrick of Kyle or Jackie O. None (except a few live-read ads). Nada. Zero. Zilch. Instead, the show was endlessly boring songs, plus traffic/news/weather reports and advertisements, plus some clearly inexperienced announcer who wearily took a 30-second call every hour or so from a listener wanting to win some ill-defined competition. Oh, and it was exactly the same on the “Hour of Power” in Adelaide, Ballarat and Brisbane last night. Just music, news, weather, traffic, and ads. We therefore assume the only broadcast featuring Kyle and Jackie this week is into Melbourne. So, what are the implications? Simply put, they’re staggering. Because unless there’s something going on we haven’t thought of, one or a combination of the following scenarios must be taking place: 1. KiisFM/ARN have sacked so many people now there’s nobody experienced enough left to put together the show in Sydney and for the “Hour of Power”, or can’t find any experienced staff willing to even work for them as they now has such a horrific reputation (they’re desperately advertising for a producer ATM); 2. Our recent memes and transcripts reveal there are virtually NO show segments recorded earlier this year (which they’re playing now as hosts are on holiday) which can be broadcast without massive push-back from MFW and advertisers (because they’re all so disgusting) and KiisFM/ARN in a panic have thus resorted to music only; and/or 3. Because of Point 2, there’s some kind of massive problem with advertisers who are now so unwilling to have ads appearing next to Kyle’s filth the station has made a deal to ditch the foul talk altogether to try to hang on to the (fast reducing) number of advertisers left. If you didn’t know, this is all utterly unprecedented. Talk shows are meant to feature TALK, even if the main hosts aren’t available. And all stations have contingencies available for these kinds of problems. Except KiisFM/ARN this week. While we know they’re in a non-ratings period so this won’t tank the show immediately, pumping nothing but inane music and ads this week out to those Australians (mostly in Sydney) who tune in only to hear Kyle’s filth won’t inspire listener loyalty. Many will switch stations forever. Which will certainly tank ratings next year. Yay! So for us, this is all incredible news. Whatever the reason, KiisFM/ARN are in complete disarray. One of the biggest issues is remaining advertisers are paying far higher rates for appearing on K and J’s program than they would on a music-only show. The “star” appeal of K and J combined with the breakfast slot traditionally command higher ad rates. So what would advertisers think if they knew they’re being charged talk-show rates for a music-only show? And who will tell them (hint: we witches will). So it’s over to you, fair witches. If you’re writing to advertisers this week, tell them they’re now paying champagne rates for a lemonade service. AND being lied to by KiisFM/ARN about the cost of those ads. AND should therefore pull all advertising from the company in response. It’s amazing, witches. It shows the end must be near, and our hard work must be nearly over. They CANNOT keep running this badly failing shit-show into the ground forever. Something has to break, and something has to give. Yet until it does, we must keep going. Are we fringe dwellers, witches? Lunatics? Well, we don’t care what Kyle calls us, as long as his advertisers listen to us. And they surely, surely do. Who’s in? #ToYourBrooms
