@timothyjweber @MelbOnTransit It was also helped by $$$ injection from the Port lease - embedding huge impacts in the western suburbs for another few generations. Labor once again sold out the west to benefit primarily other areas, just like their Eastern Rail Loop.

Great 🧵 on some recent history of level crossing removals in Melbourne. I like tweets towards the end, where Marcus points out that the Vic Govt developed the skill internally over time and that that allowed for Andrews’ big 2014 promise.

Not sure what the hell I was on last night, but I woke up at 4am with the strangest thought - it was *Jeff Kennett* who broke a 15 year long drought for level crossing removals in Melbourne. 🤯

@thamoonman_ Agree. Not an easy task, but the reality is that Labor have been in charge of this state for the majority of the last 5+ decades. They don't get participation awards for being late to address an issue that they have had primary control of for decades.

@shintemaster Id argue that they have to some extent; you can see the various projects they've already completed in suburbs somewhat close to tower projects. Unfortunately they need to rehome people & deal with a massive backlog. Not an easy task. homes.vic.gov.au/projects

In about 3-4 months they'll finally finish assessing these vacant apartments & discover that they're not fit for habitation & desperately in need of renewal. And the Vic Greens will need to explain why they fought so hard to keep people in unfit housing
The Age@theage

Activists and a Greens MP have deterred construction workers from accessing public housing towers in Melbourne’s inner north, vowing to continue obstructing them and their machinery all week to prevent the state government’s demolition plan. theage.com.au/politics/victo…

@shintemaster @1RossGittins Exactly what is capital wealth? What’s wrong with there being inter generational wealth? Tax for higher incomes is high enough already.

@disco___cat Can't believe they haven't invented one more lane yet... The people that own our cities and run our country have spent decades ignoring public transport to build toll companies money at our expense - now they are crying that people don't want to spend 2 days a week commuting.

@OperationalInc1 They already do subsides for solar, electrification etc. what about SEC total package solar, battery, electrification all at no cost with loan built into monthly access fee. Power to the people (they can give me credit for the new SEC slogan & my rates are competitive)

@maxxthum 👍, but Why do train users - who already get superior services at the expense of all taxpayers - get free travel whilst bus users pay & rarely have useful services off peak or no service. Why do I need to spend cash for uber whilst others travel for free? Broken, unfair system.

Genuinely support this, but why is off peak limited to 6pm-3am? Shouldn’t it be including the interpeak 10am-2pm?

Rod and Milton both run dairy farms here in Taree. Flooding over the last week hit them hard. To keep their businesses going, they moved all their cows onto one farm. It's another great example of Australians coming together in tough times. Recovery here is going to take time. But my message to Rod and Milton today was that they won't be alone. We'll do what it takes to help get the NSW Mid North Coast back on its feet – every step of the way.

Now do corn subsidies.
Illiquid Insights@IlliquidInsight

@zerohedge This is a great example of why countries like US and EU dislike trading with China. China pumps subsidies into select industries like EVs and solar, massively over-produces, and then dumps the excess product into global markets at the expense of every else’s domestic industries
