DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS CLARIFIES CLAIMS OF TERRORIST BASE IN THE SOUTH WEST ASSURES NIGERIANS OF ONGOING SECURITY OPERATIONS The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, on behalf of the Armed Forces of Nigeria extends his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, the government and people of Oyo State, and the entire nation over the deeply painful and unconscionable attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele; and L.A. Primary School, all in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. General Oluyede describes the abduction of innocent children and staffs as a callous and reprehensible act that strikes at the heart of every Nigerian, and assures grieving families that the full weight of the Armed Forces is being brought to bear to ensure the safe and unconditional return of every abducted victim. The Chief of Defence Staff further calls on all Nigerians to remain calm, united, and cooperate with security forces during this critical period of operations. The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to categorically address recent media reports and public speculation suggesting that terrorist elements have established a permanent operational base within the South West geo-political zone of Nigeria, particularly following the attack in Oyo State. It is pertinent to state that the incident was an isolated criminal act and does not reflect the existence of any entrenched terrorist structure in the region, as the Armed Forces had earlier conducted a comprehensive clearance operation of the Old Oyo National Park (OONP), effectively neutralizing the operational capacity of criminal elements within that corridor. Current intelligence assessments do not support the conclusion that any structured or permanent terrorist base exists within the forests or hinterlands of the South West region. Criminal elements, however audacious their recent activities, do not constitute an established insurgent presence, and the Defence Headquarters cautions against narratives that may cause unnecessary public panic or embolden adversaries by overstating their capabilities. The Defence Headquarters wishes to assure all Nigerians, particularly residents of the South West, that own troops are currently deployed and actively operating within the forest in pursuit of the perpetrators and in search of the abducted victims. Troops made contact with the criminal elements two days ago, have since reorganized, and are continuing the search and pursuit operations with full determination. Working in close coordination with relevant security agencies, the Armed Forces is conducting intensive joint operations across forest corridors and ungoverned spaces in the zone. The Armed Forces is equally engaging the local populace for human intelligence, recognizing that community cooperation remains an invaluable asset in the effort to recover the abducted victims safely and swiftly. The joint effort with all security agencies and local vigilantes will ensure that the forest is thoroughly cleared of criminal elements and that lasting peace is restored to the region. The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not relent until every abducted victim is safely recovered, the criminal networks responsible are dismantled, and normalcy is fully restored across the South West and indeed all of Nigeria. Today, I was at the commissioning of the Kasi Cloud Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Lekki, Lagos. Over the past decade, Lagos has grown into the centre of Africa’s digital economy because our people have continued to build, innovate, and push through challenges. Resilience is important but it cannot stand alone. We must keep investing in the infrastructure that supports innovation, enterprise and growth. Lagos is open for infrastructure investment and we will continue to honour the commitments we make. If you are building cloud or AI infrastructure, we are ready to work with you because enabling infrastructure is a smart economic strategy for our future. Through reforms like the Lagos State Electricity Law, investments in fibre connectivity, digital skills, and stronger public-private collaboration, we are creating an environment where technology and innovation can thrive. This is how we build a true 21st-century economy for Lagos and, ultimately, for Nigeria.

Arriving in Lomé, I witnessed firsthand the frustration African travellers still face navigating intra-African travel restrictions and visa-on-arrival processes. In my opening remarks, I spoke candidly about this challenge… if Africa wants to trade more, attract investment, and strengthen regional value chains, Africans must be able to move more freely across Africa. H.E. President @FEGnassingbe responded with decisive leadership. Today, Togo has announced the removal of visa requirements for all African citizens🌍 This is A BIG WIN for regional integration and a strong signal of the Africa we are building, one that is more connected, more competitive, and more open for business. Because to trade together, we must first welcome one another🌍🌍🌍🎯 #WeMove🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬🎯🌍 #HMIndustryTradeInvestment #FMITI

PRESS RELEASE UPDATE ON NIGERIA- UNITED STATES JOINT STRIKES ON ISIS: FORCES DELIVER DEVASTATING BLOW, ELIMINATE 175 TERRORISTS The Defence Headquarters wishes to announce major successes in continuing counterterrorism operations in close coordination with United States Africa Command against ISIS terrorists in North East Nigeria. It will be recalled that the joint strikes started a few days ago. As of 19 May 2026, assessments indicate that 175 ISIS terrorists have been eliminated from the battlefield. The joint strikes have resulted in the destruction of ISIS checkpoints, weapons caches, logistical hubs, military equipment and financial networks used to sustain terrorist operations. The operations have also resulted in the elimination of several senior ISIS leaders, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, one of the most significant ISIS operatives in the world. Al-Minuki played a central role in ISIS external operations, coordinating terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics and attack planning targeting Nigerians and innocent civilians around the world. His death severely disrupts ISIS command, operational coordination and external attack networks. Other terrorist figures eliminated include Abd-al Wahhab, ISWAP senior leader responsible for coordinating attacks and distributing propaganda, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, ISWAP senior member and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, ISWAP senior media production team manager and close confidant to al-Minuki. The joint strikes have further reinforced what the Armed Forces of Nigeria have consistently done over the years - hunt down and kill terrorists anywhere they are in Nigeria. The joint operations will continue to hunt down and destroy those who threaten our nation and regional stability. SAMAILA UBA Major General Director Defence Information 19 May 2026

EFCC Hands Over Recovered N837million to Katsina State Governor The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kano Zonal Directorate, on Monday, May 18, 2026 officially handed over recovered monetary exhibits totaling ₦837,485,389.00 to the Katsina State Government. The handover followed separate investigations into two major cases involving stolen public funds belonging to the state. In the first case, the Commission recovered ₦547,015,389.00 ( Five Hundred and Forty Seven Million, Fifteen Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty Nine Naira) following a petition from the Katsina State Government regarding the criminal diversion of nearly ₦1.3 billion in statutory tax remittances. The funds, which originated from international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and ALIMA, were systematically diverted into a private bank account by six Board of Internal Revenue Service (BOIRS) personnel and three bank employees. Following the investigation, 12 suspects were charged to court. Six of the suspects have already been convicted after pleading guilty, while the remaining six are currently standing trial at the Katsina State High Court. In the second case, the Commission recovered ₦290,470,000.00 ( Two Hundred and Ninety Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira) traced to a systemic fraud uncovered by a 2021 intelligence report. The investigation revealed that former Sub-Treasurer, Sani Lawal BK and former Deputy Sub-Treasurer Saadu Maiwada in the office of the Accountant General of Katsina State colluded and diverted the sum to their personal companies through unauthorized, substantial cash withdrawals from the Katsina State Sub-Treasury Expenditure Account. Investigation also revealed that no services were rendered, nor any contracts awarded to warrant the withdrawals. The suspects had since been charged to court and arraigned on July 11, 2023 on offences bordering on money laundering and misappropriation of funds in both Federal and State High Courts. Trials have commenced and witnesses are testifying before the courts. The handover ceremony took place at the Kano Zonal Directorate, where the Zonal Director, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1Friday S. Ebelo, presented the recovered funds to Dr. Kabir Abdullahi Yantumaki, Executive Director of Standard and Compliance, Katsina State Internal Revenue Service. Speaking during the ceremony, Ebelo reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that public funds are protected and that individuals entrusted with their management are held accountable. He noted that the recovery was a result of painstaking investigative work by the hardworking officers of the Commission. He also urged the Katsina State Government to utilize the recovered funds judiciously for the benefit of Katsina State citizens. “This money belongs to the people of Katsina State, and I will urge that same be used for the betterment of the people of Katsina State,” he said. He urged public officials to adhere to due process and warned that the EFCC would continue to track all forms of financial malfeasance. Receiving the drafts, Yantumaki expressed gratitude to the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism. He assured that the recovered funds would be properly channeled into the state’s consolidated revenue account for the benefit of citizens.
