Ludwig von Mises warned us decades ago: "The middle classes are the chief victims of inflation." While the wealthy own real assets that rise with monetary expansion and the poor receive government transfers, the middle class gets crushed holding cash savings and fixed incomes. Their purchasing power evaporates as central banks print money to fund government spending. Look around today and you see exactly what Mises predicted. Anyone who saved in bank accounts earning 0.5% interest while inflation ran at 8% lost massive wealth. Meanwhile, asset owners — those with stocks, real estate — saw their holdings soar. The Fed's money printing didn't create prosperity; it redistributed wealth from savers to debtors and asset holders. What makes this particularly insidious is that politicians sell inflation as helping "working families" while systematically destroying the middle class foundation of society. They promise stimulus and easy money will boost employment, yet ignore how monetary debasement hollows out the very people who built their savings through productive work rather than financial speculation. Mises understood that sound money isn't just an economic issue; it's a moral one. When you can print money, you don't need to convince people to fund your programs through taxes. You just inflate away their savings instead.

@Rothmus Incentives, there is a thin margin of people who genuinely should get help from the Gov we saw that in the depression and the disabled. Bc vicissitudes of capital can be elemental. People get smashed on the rocks. They need rescue. They just can't be permanent welfare recipients.

@Kazanjy @SFMTA_Muni @MTA @SFBART Yeah I had an analyst on wall street point out to me the Federal and Local Government system had become a social welfare jobs system 4 preferred voting blocks about 2 years ago. He still supported Dem, bc he really didn't like white people even though he was white himself.

Today I learned that @SFMTA_Muni, @MTA, and @SFBART all have ~20x - 70x more staffing costs on a per rider trip basis than Tokyo's Metro system. US public transit is a scam that exists to employ politically desirable populations in exchange for votes.

It sucks to be a boomer. We had to make a lot of sacrifices for our children. A lot of us didn’t have working wives so the men shouldered all the financial burden just to be let down by the system when we got older. Anyone who says OK boomer should have had to work through the 80s when middle class manufacturing jobs got gutted and sent to China. It wasn’t a bed of roses like some younger generations think. You’re right, the golden retirement does not exist. The companies I worked for gutted their pension plans in favor of 401(k) putting a person who worked on the assembly line in charge of investing in Wall Street. It was very ill conceived.

Pensions were common for the older Boomers. Most of them got gutted or frozen in the 80s and 90s. The big shift to 401(k) plans moved all the risk onto the workers. These unfunded liabilities still plague the mostly blue states and cities across our country where union deals were struck in return for votes. A lot of Boomers are still working past 65 because their pensions did not survive. It was not the golden retirement everyone pretends it was. Reply with what happened to the pension plan where you or your parents worked if it affected you.

@KMNDR_ It's the over emphasis of sociology departments in colleges. It's a really valuable field with extremely powerful ideas in it that in the hands of mid wits turned into a locus of grievance, power obsession and disruption.

Can we all just take a minute to appreciate what a brilliant but powerfully insidious message it was to preach "education will save you" to an entire generation? Like mental fentanyl. Invisible but laced into everything in the information age. Just learn more bro. For two decades that was the mantra. Now we see what a fatal error that was. I mean look at the bodies that are going to stack up over the next few years from those four words. Look at the ones that already have. Educated into a self imposed classically conditioned prison of inaction. All the while the real truth was - high agency will save you.

Since being beefed up in 2020, California's state density bonus law has facilitated over 140,000 new homes, during a period when US permitting otherwise fell. If you're wondering whether YIMBY reforms matter, the answer is: yes!

@nypost This is why we really need a serious dynastic wealth tax...not first generation so Xavier would squeak by. But by 2nd or 3rd generation we should absoloutly be hitting their SFO's and other mechanisms with 50+% wealth taxes every year. Heirs are free riders on our system.

Seen through the lens of intra-elite civil war. This announcement by AG Rob Bonta can be seen as an attempt by traditional elites in CA to appear sympathetic to the concerns of a broad swathe of the voter population. When for years billions have been being stolen and they did 0.

BREAKING: California AG Rob Bonta announces a major hospice fraud "bust" in Los Angeles County, alleging that the scheme defrauded Medi-Cal of $267 million. "So, just to be clear, a quarter billion dollars...funds that are paid for by Californian taxpayers, funds that are meant to provide care to Californians in need." "It is unacceptable. It is illegal, and we will not stand for it."

@nicksortor I got to give it to Bonta for not being a total dunce cap, and actually making a small effort to show action on fraud. This is what I would file under smoke screen or for show, or maybe even malicious compliance. Still he never would have taken action w/o the public pressure.

@ChiefEngineerCE Philippines is a great example of this type of governmental policy of exporting their people overseas for remittences. What's behind it is in country dynastic elites, refuse to invest long term in their own factor markets which would take long term risk and thinking

We can define this as failure. Modi is a failure. How can their citizens not recognize this? When a country's highest wage earners are doing it in other countries... failure. India, Mexico, and even China are prime examples. Their leaders push H1B and other visa programs hard because remittances from workers in the United States keep their economies afloat. They even lobby our Congress for special treatment. Mexico lobbies for illegals - no kidding, while politicians cash those checks. In 2025 alone these three countries pulled in well over 200 billion dollars in remittances. That is dependence. A successful government builds an economy where its own citizens can provide for their families without having to leave. It creates real opportunity at home instead of treating its people as an export commodity. Exporting your population to collect remittances is not a development strategy. It is a confession of failure. What isn't even discussed is how these foreigners earn well below an American that travels/lives internationally for work- the highest on the chart. Yet very few Americans do in comparison. America's highest wage earners? They work in America. Why wouldn't American politicians want to encourage it's citizens to earn more?

@joececchini @SouthernWintrs @micsolana I'm just saying you just showed why race based housing interventions or any government interventions that seek to use "good racism" to fix so called "systemic inequities" as policy is a terrible idea. Eventually leading to greater disparities as markets naturally seek equilibrium

there is no systemic racism against black americans in nyc — in fact the system seems to favor them. there’s just no path for white people to live in the city longer term but wealth. so most avoid the place completely, and the few who stick around are rich.

@joececchini @SouthernWintrs @micsolana That's an almost text book example of how Gov housing interventions like public housing or rent control that use race and monetary levers create negative externalnities resulting in off market housing or illegal markets to meet true market price equilibrium and favor whites.
