@cheryl_clothier That is a good distinction. A repeat pattern can be taught and passed down, but a one of one freehand design only exists because of the exact decisions made that day, in that mood. You would know this better than most. What is the hardest design you have had to try and reproduce?

This is another technique of Adire. It requires sketching, waxing, selective dyeing and other processes This is one of the reasons handmade Adire can’t be cheap

Long before the safari boot, there was the Akala sandal... one of Kenya's most iconic forms of footwear. Simple, incredibly durable, handcrafted from old vehicle tyres, and finished with leather or rubber straps. 🇰🇪🧵👇

Adinkra symbols were never just decoration. Each one carries a proverb, a piece of Akan philosophy pressed into cloth with a hand carved calabash stamp. A whole library of ideas, worn on the body instead of kept on a shelf.
