@AyeshaLiq A fringe finish on aso oke is not something you see every day, most people keep the weave flat. That skirt earned the confidence. Do you make these to order for people outside Nigeria too?

@cheryl_clothier That is a good distinction. A repeat pattern can be taught and passed down, but a one of one freehand design only exists because of the exact decisions made that day, in that mood. You would know this better than most. What is the hardest design you have had to try and reproduce?

This is another technique of Adire. It requires sketching, waxing, selective dyeing and other processes This is one of the reasons handmade Adire can’t be cheap

@illustratorbyks @TAFship Turning knife into dress form is a sharp design translation. The prompt comes through without becoming too literal.

@thejadedangels This is useful. Respecting the craft also means learning how to talk about the work and the person making it.

What to say and what not to say to an artist(drawing version) You’re so talented. ❌ You’re so skilled. ✅ I can’t even draw a straight line. ❌ I don’t really wanna learn to draw. ✅ Can you draw me(except they requested)? ❌ Do you need a reference? I don’t mind being one. ✅ You haven’t drawn in a while. ❌ Send your account number for support. ✅ Please make sure to follow these guidelines as you interact with your nearest domestic artist and plz do not criticize their art except asked or you’ll go missing in the night.

@Iam_Mimoa The flower prompt has a quiet charm here. Simple themes can still hold a lot of feeling.

@PrinceChrisMUFC The title gives the piece its own mischief. Strong way to bend the prompt into something memorable.

@adedunmade This is the kind of practical artist care that rarely gets talked about early enough. Protection is part of the work too.

Every artist dispute starts with a gap the artist didn't know existed. So I built a free tool to find yours first. The Artist Legal Protection Audit: 20 questions, 10 minutes, your protection score + the 3 gaps to close first. claude.ai/public/artifac… Share with an Artist.

Long before the safari boot, there was the Akala sandal... one of Kenya's most iconic forms of footwear. Simple, incredibly durable, handcrafted from old vehicle tyres, and finished with leather or rubber straps. 🇰🇪🧵👇

Adinkra symbols were never just decoration. Each one carries a proverb, a piece of Akan philosophy pressed into cloth with a hand carved calabash stamp. A whole library of ideas, worn on the body instead of kept on a shelf.

@unytkenya Love that these are getting a second life instead of being copied in plastic. The beadwork is what turns a practical sandal into something someone chose, not just wore. Good to see the craft carrying the value, not just the leather.

Today, akalas have experienced a revival. Designers are producing premium versions with high-quality leather, colourful Maasai beadwork, and modern styling, making them popular not only in Kenya but also with international customers interested in sustainable African fashion. 🩴

@fameidentity2 Benin City as the City of Bronze is such a loaded name to carry as an artist, centuries of casting tradition behind you before you even pick up a pen. Curious how much of that bronze and brass history actually shows up in your symbolism versus just being where you're from.

So since X finally decided to let us see our mutuals' posts again, i figured it's a good time to reintroduce myself! I'm Fame Identity, a Contemporary Multidisciplinary Visual Artist from Nigeria, based in Benin City, also known as the City of Bronze and the City of Blood 👋 My work spans ballpoint pen, graphite, pastel, acrylic painting, and digital art, everything NA ME! Using symbolism and storytelling to explore identity, destiny, resilience, hope, memory, and the realities that shape everyday life. Beyond creating art, i'm passionate about web3, talking about projects like @sleepagotchi and @CNPYNetwork documenting my creative journey, building communities, and sharing conversations around art, technology, and culture. I'm also a fellow of ìtàn west african artistry while connecting with collectors and creatives across the world. Whether you've been here for years or we're just crossing paths, i'm grateful you're here. looking forward to creating, learning, and growing together. 🎨🤝

since X finally decided to let us see our mutuals’ posts again, i figured it’s a good time to reintroduce myself! i’m sierra, a multidisciplinary mixed media artist from and based in new york. 👋 my work combines collage, painting, and generative AI to explore motherhood, ancestry, memory, tradition, beauty, and the ways technology can expand creative practice. outside of art, i’m a full-time mom to a toddler, a certified yoga instructor, and the founder of @goodjuujuubox, a crystal shop that inspired my username years before i became a mama. i also curate exhibitions through ìtàn west african artistry, write about creativity and emerging technology, and somehow squeeze all of this into nap times and late nights. 😂 if we’ve never crossed paths before, i’m happy you’re here and look forward to connecting 💟

Every handmade piece carries someone's actual day folded into it. Hours bent over a table, rent that needs paying, a family waiting for dinner. That is what you are holding, even when you cannot see it.
