No more smart cities. I want dumb cities. Cities that anyone can use and live in, public infrastructure that makes so much sense you don't have to think twice to interact. A city where I don't have to watch strangers struggle to understand Presto or bikesharing or parking.

@Monica_E_G Inadequate management is the number one reason. There's an old guard with a specific attitude around what work is, that doesn't hinge on output but rather, on keeping up appearances. It's gutting.

Between RTO plans, bureaucracy, discrimination, and systemic barriers to innovative ways of working, they couldn't use their talents to their full potential or see a way forward. It is heartbreaking.

Over the past couple weeks, I heard about 3 wonderful public servants leaving/planning to leave the public service.

@dr_abela This is a constant challenge on the open data side. Protecting people is integral but we suffer from the suppression and aggregation of the identifiable value of the data itself. It's a balancing act and I keep wondering if the answer is consent at the data collection phase.

Today I did a recap of everything we've accomplished with open data at @ESDC_GC in the last year and it was a really good reminder to record your wins whenever you can because my heart feels full. ❤️ This is the good fight.
