getting a job at a startup is really easy if you think about it. step 1. get approached by a YC founder, get ghosted at your first in-person meeting, receive a contract during your second meeting, sign the contract, pay rent for the summer, then get ghosted again. step 2. work trial at another 3-person YC startup, find out you’re going to be their engineer for the day when the founder wanted to recruit you for growth marketing. get dropped by the end of the 12h work trial because “they need an engineer”. step 3. dwell on it for a night, call your mum, but cope by buying a monitor and a new desk to work on coding projects so you can post them online from your dorm room because you paid rent for the summer anyway. step 4. wake up the next morning and commute 1h across the bay to attend a startup recruiting event instead of giving up. step 5. talk to 3 sales guys who offer you a work trial but tell you that "it's hard" so you leave unconvinced. step 6. on the way out, strike a random convo with one of the girls, asking if their startup “also does marketing”. step 7. chat at her desk, get recruited in 15 min and join a badass team of “corgi girls”.
