@p2pdht @AlexCDesilets @_annieversary My point was that the syntax has existed for at least a century, has been taught to anyone with a middle school education, and is much more legible than unformatted code. What you gain is more than offset by the loss of flexibility as well.

@AlexCDesilets @p2pdht @_annieversary Supposing that ‘sum’ is the return value of a function ‘f’, and denoting ‘values’ as a vector ‘v’, you get the attached screenshot.

@sihmael @p2pdht @_annieversary What's the equivalent to this then: double sum=O; vector<double> values = *imagine a list of doubles here* for (int i =0; i <values.length();++i){ if ( value[i] < 1) {sum =0; break} sum += value[i]; } Math has no conditionals that let you set null return values or exit loops.

@p2pdht @_annieversary I thought about this as well too. You can do so much with comparison conditionals and loops that are just not possible to represent in standard math equations.

@leo2909agd @r0ktech Believe me, I’d much rather be using Linux, but until there’s a laptop that matches the performance, battery life, form factor, and build quality of a MacBook, it just doesn’t make sense to switch. Compromising any of those is worse than dealing with SlopOS 26.

@Ajmain11903581 @r0ktech Can you make it match both the performance and battery life of an M5 Pro, without compromising either? Next ask is to match the size and weight on top of those, but I’d almost be willing to compromise on them a little if it meant matching the first two criteria.

@rawkode @jarredsumner Be fair to Atlassian: The Browser Company killed Arc long before acquisition was a thought in Atlassian’s mind.

@jarredsumner “The Anthropic thing sucks” isn’t directly aimed at Anthropic and more an association with developers favourite startups getting swallowed by larger orgs. Nobody ever enjoyed VMware eating Salt, IBM eating Hashicorp, or Atlassian killing Arc. We like the little guys!

OpenCode moving away from Bun looks to be a seriously daft decision, from my perspective. I understand the Anthropic thing sucks, but Bun is now literally being improved daily for their exact use-case and they’re moving to node? Wild

@theo did you see this help.openai.com/en/articles/20…? Their wording says the new limits “align with API token usage”, which at least sounds like “we’re ending subsidized usage” to me. I’m not familiar enough with token usage to estimate the real impact though.

@jakepenn_ @theo @jarredsumner @badlogicgames It’s basically a GUI for Codex CLI. If you don’t already have Codex installed, the app won’t do anything. It competes with their MacOS GUI app, but it was intentionally built to coexist with existing CLI harnesses rather than replacing them.

what would happen in reality - the tracker would be overrun with extremely poor slop PRs within days, making things worse, not better - triaging would become near impossible, given the flood of PRs - as a result, anthropic would merge exactly zero community contributions ask me how i know
Michael@michael_chomsky

it may sound insane, but @theo is almost definitely right to suggest that Anthropic should open-source Claude Code. The benefits are obvious: -it would be the most-starred repo of all time by a very wide margin, easily surpassing OpenClaw -they would get a bunch of free engineering from some of the smartest people in the world, and engineering velocity would skyrocket -a lot of the many small bugs plaguing CC would be eliminated -they would receive an unprecedented level of goodwill -CC SDK usage would likely 10x The downsides definitely aren't as pressing now that the source has been leaked. Regardless, 2025 was the year of mediocre harnesses. This will not be the case in 2026. I expect great things from Anthropic, OAI, Pi, Nous, OpenCode, and Slate Because once users taste a great harness, it's hard to return to something that isn't nearly as good.

There is absolutely no reason why Go programmers shouldn't switch to Odin. Odin is everything Golang wish it were. Even Go's concurrency model is a trap - it fakes simplicity by hiding insane footguns that you'll inevitably step into.

@mikey_bk Not defending the law, but nothing in there requires an app to connect to the internet. It indicates that checks must be made against the OS’s API once the app is downloaded and launched, which shouldn’t require any internet connection to do since it’s already downloaded.

Everybody’s missing the big problem here: Developers who distribute their app through a package repository will now be REQUIRED to request that age signal. As in, every package is now REQUIRED to be connected to the internet in order for the dev to comply, and every dev is REQUIRED to set up a mechanism to actively request that signal for every install. This is an open source killer.
Chibi Reviews@ChibiReviews

BREAKING NEWS: Proposed Colorado Bill which would require all Operating Systems "Windows and Linux" to implement age verification. California has a very similar bill "AB-1043" which has already been passed and signed into law. The bill takes effect in January 2027

@James00489250 @gweilonft @_yushe Reddit mods are “in charge” in the same way that your classmate was when it was their turn to be hall monitor. Honestly, even less - they’re like the kid who volunteered to help the hall monitor even when it wasn’t their turn.
