The scarcity of the South Sudan Pound (liquidity crisis) has caused inadvertent gold trading problems in Greater Kapoeta. There is now abundant artisanal gold in the hands of local miners and traders with no buyers. The trade is usually done in SSP ( the locals have no use for USD). Unfortunately, there are no major banks in Kapoeta town, the regional capital, to supply the LCY. This is beside the perennial scarcity of the SSP even in the capital city of Juba. Just to let you know, the gold prices in this area are always near international market prices, not favorable for those looking for big margins. Will this scarcity of the SSP impact the gold prices in the local economy now that the rainy season has set in where artisanal gold production usually ramp up? Time will tell.

In 2019, South Sudan discovered a new oil well in the Adar area of Northern Upper Nile State that contained 5.3 million barrels of recoverable crude. Now South Sudan has discovered another new well in Al-Nahla field, which holds immense potential crude which will increase oil production from a single well in Blocks 3 and 7 in Paloch oil fields. It's happening at the time when oil price in the world market is at $108 pb and South Sudan is already producing 100,000 bpd.

This is a proper Presidential Press Unit update. Whoever tapped this lady for this role deserves some appreciation for choosing competence over mediocrity. Over the years we have been fed crab as updates from the PPU. Please let them not lobby her out yet. @Miyen_mimdit

After studying over 500 years of history, I’ve found there are really only three things you need to do to build a healthy society. First, educate your young people well—not just to be capable, but to be civil. If you have capable, civil people in a productive society, that’s a big part of the battle. Second, the finances must be sound: earn more than you spend and have more assets than liabilities. And third, don't get into a war—internally or externally. If you can do those three things, you can have a prosperous, self-reinforcing society.

@paulinenjoroge Off-ramp? That’s not part of his plans yet, he believes he is almost winning. Can he really put the breaks on the offensive now? Not when the campaign has any deadlock reached yet.

We can only hope that Trump has a clear exit strategy out of this war, because the dynamics already unfolding suggest things may not be as simple or as quick as he initially anticipated.

@diingosanto It largely depends on how the presale oil contracts were structured, otherwise only those who bought the crude in advance could enjoy the surge in the global crude oil prices.

With this biting liquidity crisis, where will the taxpayers get the cash from? Every e-money is backed up by cash either at commercial banks’ cash vaults or reserves at the Bank of South Sudan. There are no rooms for a quick fix to our current liquidity crisis unless the government takes bold steps to remedy the problem that led us here in the fist place.

IN 21ST CENTURY Only adaptive will survive. During banking crisis such as these, “business as usual” will make matters worse. Hence, we need to do the “unthinkable” and ask taxpayers to pay cash or convert and transfer in dollars into NRA dollar accounts in commercial banks.

The US State Department issues strongly-worded statement on South Sudan, demands "urgent action" to prevent return to conflict, resumption of dialogue and, implicitly, release of VP Riek Machar from house arrest. x.com/AsstSecStateAF…
Bureau of African Affairs@AsstSecStateAF

Statement on U.S. Priorities on South Sudan: South Sudan's transitional government has repeatedly failed to live up to its commitments to international partners and its responsibilities to support its people.  President Trump has made clear that the United States will not be taken advantage of.  Therefore, the transitional government must undertake immediate action if it wishes to maintain United States support: · It must undertake urgent action to uphold peace and mitigate the risk of civil war through an immediate return to dialogue among the parties to the 2018 peace agreement.  It is farcical to say that such dialogue is taking place while the head of the second largest party to the agreement, First Vice President Machar, is under arrest and on trial. · The South Sudanese transitional government must address the misuse of its public revenue, ensuring it is allocated for appropriate public purposes, including public sector salaries, health and education services, humanitarian relief, and infrastructure.  United States taxpayer-funded emergency assistance is not a substitute for good governance and transparent public financial management. · There must be an end to the abuse, exploitation, and theft directed against U.S. foreign assistance by South Sudanese officials at national, state, and county levels. This would both protect U.S. taxpayer dollars from waste and help transform South Sudan into a capable and reliable state for U.S. trade and investment. · The South Sudanese exploitation of the U.S. immigration system must end, and there must be full transitional government cooperation with U.S. immigration law and border security priorities.
