TIL: Shrek's name comes from the Unix command `sh /re/ -k`, where /re/ is an arbitrary regular expression. #FakeShrekFacts

@AltCyberCommand @PeterSommerlad @thingskatedid I usually pick a theme for temporary identifiers during local development, so they stand out semantically. All get removed before posting a PR. Often, I use fruits and vegetables or onomatopoeia ("HONK_HONK", "KABOOM", "AWOOGA"), this time I picked Shrek.

@PeterSommerlad i'm not sure why you rewrote this, but here's my previous reply twitter.com/thingskatedid/…
Kate@thingskatedid

@PeterSommerlad this is an awfully judgemental thing to say based on almost no information. you don't know what the context is here, what the author was up to, if this code was actually committed, what's currently in progress or not. you could have not written this, and enjoyed the code instead.

@PeterSommerlad @thingskatedid The context for the code I sent her was, "I think I have this working locally, but before I post the PR I'm going to add property tests and remove silly temporary stuff like this". But, go on.

I feel like a lot more communities should be constructed on a "build one to throw away" model where you create the community in a relatively low effort way, observe all the ways it goes wrong and all the people you don't want in the next iteration...

@acfoltzer @copyconstruct Like one process boop!ing another on the nose, and incidentally handing off a file descriptor, waking it from a poll loop, or whatever.

💡 the ^ operator is pronounced "xor", which is actually short for the swedish word framgångsbyxor

If you could order lobster from a hot dog vendor it would look like this. It looks like it was cooked in the glove compartment of a golf cart. I don't care for it.

Going to leave this on my desk for like a month, because committing to things is hard.
