The proton spectrum is soft and the peak is around the time of the passage of the shock, i.e., this peak is an energetic storm particle (ESP) event. We may not expect the creation of a second radiation belt as was in the 1991 March event.

Halo CME@halocme
The X1.9 flare/CME has been an overachiever! It is responsible for the SEP event with the highest >10 MeV proton flux (3.7e4) since 1991-03-23, i.e., higher than the Bastille Day 2000 and Halloween 2003. Now G4 storm (Kp=8+) thanks to strong magnetic field and high wind speed.

A full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME), associated with an M8.1 flare from Region 4299 at 20:39 UTC on 06 December, is expected to impact Earth early to midday on 09 December, potentially causing periods of G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storming.

X-1.95 flare now! Although not yet completely in view, old Region 4274 it is firing big flares again! This one is causing an R3 Radio blackout on the dayside of Earth now! Expect VHF/HF radio degradation over next hour, especially in the Asian Pacific (colored regions in map).

@JAtanackov Shocked to see the Type ll so relatively low, but those unfortunately aren’t always the most accurate. But would agree it must be quite fast with how quickly it appeared in GOES CCOR. Interested to see what the measurements comes out with.

The CME is expanding very rapidly, this is one of the fastest and quite possibly the fastest Earth-directed CME of Solar Cycle 25. There have been very fast far side CMEs, but very few near-side fast ones. I'll go out on a limb and say it reminds me a bit of the July 15th, 2000 blast (although that one was on the central meridian). But this is just me sharing thoughts, let's wait and see what actual space weather experts say - @SNHWx what do you think?
